Social Chronobiology
16 couples who had been married about 81⁄2 yr. indicated level of activation every 4 hr. on each of 6 days and twice each day completed the Interpersonal Conflict Scale. Body temperatures were recorded each hour. Analyses showed group rhythms in scores, individual rhythms in some scores. Use of this information in resolving conflict seems possible
Ethnicity and Sex Distinctions in Patterns of Aptitude Factor Scores in a Sample of Urban High School Seniors
Three aptitude factor scores for each of 2,985 college-bound, urban high school seniors were used to compare patterns and levels of performance by sex and ethnic group membership. The results indicated that within ethnic groups, men and women exhibit patterns of scores characteristic of their sex. Significant differences in levels of performance between ethnic groups were found on the three factors, and differences on two factors were found for m…
Relationships of Indices of Eighth Grade Academic Achievement to Sex and to Measures of Differentiated Aptitudes and Personality Traits
Relationships between achievement measures and those of aptitude, sex, and personality traits were explored in a sample of 226 eighth grade students in a suburban school. Eighteen aptitude measures and a 14-scale personality inventory were administered and factor analyzed; salient tests and scales were selected as predictors of standardized measures of academic achievement. Results of a sequential, step-wise multiple regression analysis indicated…
Redundancy in the Stanford Achievement Test
The Stanford Achievement Test, Advanced, provides nine subtests which are often used by schools as normed measures of school achievement. As part of a larger study, the relation between each of these subtests and measures of special aptitudes and temperament traits was studied with a sample of 226 eighth graders. Principal factors were sought. The first eigenvalue was 6.64; the second was 0.64; the remaining eigenvalues were less than one. Conver…

Figural Creativity, Intelligence, And Personality In Children
To study relationships among figural creativity, intelligence, and personality, 30 measures hypothesized to be relevant were obtained for 196 children in grades 4, 5, and 6. Principal components extracted from the intercorrelations were rotated to the normalized varimax criterion. Nine factors were interpreted: A, chronological age and general information; B, personal adjustment; C, sex-typing; D, school achievement and mental ability; E, diverge…
Handbook of Multivariate Experimental Psychology
Effects of Answer-Sheet Format on Arithmetic Test Scores
System Support for Hypothesis Generation
An experiment was conducted on the usefulness of a statistical summary in judging enemy intentions, in the context of a nuclear attack. The statistical summary was based on applications of correlation, factor groupings, and variance ratios. Thirty ROTC students served as Ss, playing the role of intelligence analysts in a simulated command post. Analyses of variance of scores based on analysts' judgments support two major inferences: use of the su…
