  • Advancing culturally competent medical education

Open Access•Jean Leblanc, Joseph LeBlanc et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Public Health•2025

This paper advances decolonization within medical education, contextualized by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). We discuss, describe, and analyze the history of settler colonialism and its relevance for healthcare and education today. We analyze how Indigeneity is interpreted in an international context based on the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. We situate the current health conte…

  • Farming the North

Open Access•Sarah Rotz, Daniel Rück et al.•ARTICLE•Antipode•2025•Cited by: 5•References: 65

This paper examines recent initiatives to expand farming in Northern Ontario, Canada, situating these within the historical context of settler colonial agriculture. Focusing on land assembly, we explore how land consolidation, privatisation, and conversion meet agricultural and economic objectives under contemporary colonial…

  • A pragmatic guide to generic qualitative research in counselor education

Open Access•Phillip L Waalkes, Daniel Andrew Decino et al.•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•2024•References: 25

Few practical guidelines exist for conducting generic qualitative research (GQR) with rigor and intentional purpose. • Generic qualitative dissertations in counselor education

Open Access•Phillip L Waalkes, Daniel Andrew Decino et al.•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 19

We conducted a content analysis of generic qualitative counseling dissertations (GQR;N = 70), examining their methodological justifications, coherence, and trustworthiness. Dissertations authors often presented vague methodological justifications. Findings have implications for constructing methodological justifications, integrating relevant literature, and awareness of how GQR compares to other qualitative methodologies

  • Reframing food as a commons in Canada

Open Access•Jodi Koberinski, Jose Luis Vivero-Pol et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Food Studies / La Revue…•2022

This paper interrogates the role of the dominant narrative of “food-as-commodity” in framing food systems policy in Canada. Human values shape policies, usually privileging those policies that are aligned with dominant values and neglecting others that confront dominant values. In that sense, valuing food as a commodity privileges specific market-based policy goals, regulations, and public subsidies that aim to enlarge market coverage. This prior…

A “digital revolution” in agriculture is underway. Advanced technologies like sensors, artificial intelligence, and robotics are increasingly being promoted as a means to increase food production efficiency while minimizing resource use. In the process, agricultural digitalization raises critical social questions about the implications for diverse agricultural labourers and rural spaces as digitalization evolves. In this paper, we use literature …
