    Open Access•Tatiana Becerra-Posada, Anamaría Sagre et al.•ARTICLE•Gender and Education•2026

This study draws on a critical feminist framework to explore the representation of women’s roles in democracy and peacebuilding within English as a Foreign Language (EFL) material in Colombia. Following a critical multimodal analysis, we examined 44 texts in the textbook Way to Go 8. Our findi…

    Open Access•Tatiana Becerra-Posada•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 9

This article responds to calls for a relational praxis and rigor in qualitative research, seeking alternative ways of knowledge co-construction that serve the needs of marginalized and racialized communities, thus subverting research-as-usual designs. I describe the collaborative development of a research methodology within a partnership involving members of the Callemar township's educational community in the Colombian Caribbean region. Conducte…

  • Land‐based literacies in local naturecultures

    Open Access•Tatiana Becerra-Posada, Christian Ehret•ARTICLE•Journal of Adolescent & Adult…•2024

Land‐based literacies scholars have worked to expand understandings of literacies to include often marginalized cultures who understand literacy as resulting from human and more‐than‐human relations. In this article, we contribute to this broadening of literacies with an analysis of how nature influences the meaning‐making practices of rural, subaltern communities in the Global South. Our inspiration stems from indigenous scholars who have advanc…

A deficit view of rural language learners' out-of-school literacy practices has permeated formal educational and language policy globally. Intergovernmental organizations like the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, for instance, have often portrayed rural learners in Global South countries as having literacy deficits if their language skills are not in alignment with the practices valued in school contexts. These deficit repr…

Reading to Learn (R2L) is a genre-based pedagogical model that has been used worldwide for promoting student literacy in L1 and L2 contexts. Despite its increasing popularity, very few studies have reported how R2L can be used to support learners’ spoken communication in foreign language classrooms. This article reports the results of a qualitative study that explored how a rural-school teacher of efl used this model to support ninth graders’ und…
