    The objective of this paper is to assess the current state of our knowledge about the socio-economic and motivational characteristics of Puerto Rican migrants to, and from, the United States mainland.     This paper examines the extent to which particular socialization techniques are associated with the successful transmission of mothers' educational ambitions for their children. Interviews were conducted with 524 tenth graders and their mothers, residing in eight New Jersey communities.
