  • Empowering agentic literacies

Open Access•Victoria Damjanovic, Sandy Branson•ARTICLE•Journal of Early Childhood Literacy•2026

The fundamental right of every child to access books and materials with diverse perspectives is recognized globally. This right not only supports cognitive and academic development but also contributes significantly to social and emotional well-being, fostering active participation in society. However, integrating social justice topics into early childhood education remains a challenge. This article argues that failing to address these topics not…

  • Empowering Diverse Learners

    Open Access•Victoria Damjanovic, Sandy Branson•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2025

This qualitative case study explores how preschool teachers enact inclusive pedagogical practices by integrating tangible technologies, low-tech, and no-tech tools within an inquiry-based learning framework. Focusing on teacher decision-making and children’s multimodal engagement, the study examines two questions: (1) How do early childhood teachers use a range of tools to support inclusive, inquiry-driven learning? and (2) How do children engage…

  • Scholarly Podcasting for Research Dissemination

    Open Access•Lindsay Persohn, Sandy Branson•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

The purpose of this scoping review is to understand ways in which podcasting is used to communicate research findings and mobilize knowledge to a public audience. We address the use of podcasting as a broad research dissemination tool, as opposed to podcasting as a tool in formal education contexts. We summarize findings of individual studies, then identify themes across those studies. We offer definitions of specialized terms, as well as afforda…

Some researchers may find it difficult to engage in public knowledge sharing while aligning with their institution’s demands for positive impacts on the university’s standardized metrics and rankings. This interpretive single case study addresses the value of scholarly podcasts, measured and communicated throu…

  • Aging and Burnout for Nurses in an Acute Care Setting

Open Access•Margaret E Beier, Mona Cockerham et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

We examined the relationship between age, coping, and burnout during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic with nurses in Texas (N = 376). Nurses were recruited through a professional association and snowball sampling methodology for the cross-sectional survey study. Framed in lifespan development theories, we expected that nurse age and experience would be positively correlated with positive coping strategies (e.g., getting emotional support from ot…

  • Examining Differences between Homebound Older Adult Pet Owners and Non-pet Owners in Depression, Systemic Inflammation, and Executive Function

Sandy Branson, Sandra M Branson et al.•ARTICLE•Anthrozoös•2016•Cited by: 8•References: 50

Homebound older adults are prone to depression, which is linked to systemic inflammation that promotes executive function decline. A companion animal may reduce the negative biobehavioral processes asso- ciated with depression, inflammation, and reduced executive function in homebound older adults. The primary aim of this study was to examine dif- ferences between homebound older adult pet owners and non-pet owners in depression, salivary C-react…
