  • Continuity of maternal and infant care through integrated health service delivery networks in Latin America

Open Access•Sonya Panjwani, Whitney R Garney et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2023

Latin America has experienced substantial development over the last three decades; however, development has been uneven with persistent inequalities, especially in the areas of maternal and child health. Since the early 1990s, most Latin American health-care systems have undergone a series of reforms to improve access to services, with the most recent being the implementation of integrated health service delivery networks (IHSDNs). This model pos…

  • Topic Modeling

    Open Access•Diana Valdez, Danny Valdez et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science Quarterly•2018•Cited by: 4•References: 20

Objective Topic modeling (TM) refers to a group of methods for mathematically identifying latent topics in large corpora of data. Although TM shows promise as a tool for social science research, most researchers lack awareness of the tool's utility. Therefore, this article provides a brief overview of TM's logic and processes, offers a simple example, and suggests several possible uses in social sciences. Methods Using latent semantic analysis in…

  • Alcohol and sex

Open Access•Kwon Chan Jeon, Patricia Goodson•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

This study examined how the structure of friendship networks influences two risk behaviours in tandem (drinking and sexual intercourse) among a sample of US adolescents (7th–12th grades, n = 901; 2 schools) from Wave I of the Add Health data. For one school, adolescents in denser and smaller networks were at higher risk for engaging in sexual intercourse and drinking alcohol simultaneously. In that school, network attributes (out-degree and betwe…

  • What’s love got to do with it? Adolescent romantic networks and substance use

Open Access•Wura Jacobs, Kwon Chan Jeon et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

This study examined how romantic aspiration network characteristics at the individual level (in-degree and out-degree) are associated with substance use (i.e. smoking and drinking) among a cross-sectional sample of US adolescents (10th grade, n = 1523) from 4 high schools in Los Angeles. Findings highlighted that, with an increase in out-degree (romantic aspiration nominations made), adolescents in our sample were less likely (OR = .824, CI = .68…

  • Autoethnography in action research for health education practitioners

    Open Access•Sandra Acosta, Heather Honoré Goltz et al.•ARTICLE•Action Research•2015•Cited by: 14•References: 11

We propose a methodological framework for conducting collaborative and analytic autoethnography (CAAE) in action research inquiry. Similar to other action research methodologies, CAAE is: (a) systematic, framed by a research question and employing explicit, transparent methods; (b) problem-based, drawn from health educators’ practices; and (c) cyclical, predicated on the assumption that a plan for implementing changes is derived from the findings…
