  • The carbon crater

    Open Access•Hal T Nelson, Paul Reynolds et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2025•References: 42

Equilibrium climate sensitivity modeling relies heavily on paleoclimate records that were affected by meteorite impacts and volcanic explosions. This paper conducts a thought experiment by re-assembling known data and theories to shed new light on anthropogenic carbon waste. Anthropogenic activity, meteorite impacts and volcanic explosions all extract material from the Earth's crust and deposit it in the atmosphere. This thought experiment tests …

  • Intergovernmental climate change mitigation policies

    Open Access•Hal T Nelson, Adam Rose et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Policy•2015•Cited by: 4•References: 49

This paper develops a framework for analysing intergovernmental relationships around greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation policies along a cooperation-conflict spectrum that affects the probability of their enactment. Cooperative policies, such as federal fiscal transfers to sub-national governments, facilitate enactment. Coordination policies, including enabling and funding mechanisms, promote interdependence between jurisdictions. Competitive polici…

  • Techno-Social Energy Infrastructure Siting

Open Access•Mark Abdollahian, Zining Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Artificial Societies…•2013

Technical, environment, social, economic and political constraints are critical barriers to the development of new renewable energy supplies. SEMPro is an agent-based, predictive analytics model of energy siting policy in the techno-social space that simulates how competing interests shape siting outcomes to identify beneficial policy for sustainable energy infrastructure. Using a high voltage transmission line as a case study, we integrate proje…
