  • Negotiating Good Parenthood in Swedish Climate Change Fiction

    Open Access•Johanna Björklund•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2024•References: 14

How can you be a good parent to a child who, with the current speed of global warming, will likely live their adult life in a world ravaged by floods, wildfires, and pandemics? In the absence of scholarship that centres the question of how to be a good parent in times of climate change, fictional literature can provide a way to explore this dilemma. This article analyzes how parenthood is conceptualized in relation to environmental consciousness …

  • Generation and Polynomial Parsing of Graph Languages with Non-Structural Reentrancies

Open Access•Johanna Björklund, Frank Drewes et al.•ARTICLE•Computational Linguistics•2023

Graph-based semantic representations are popular in natural language processing, where it is often convenient to model linguistic concepts as nodes and relations as edges between them. Several attempts have been made to find a generative device that is sufficiently powerful to describe languages of semantic graphs, while at the same allowing efficient parsing. We contribute to this line of work by introducing graph extension grammar, a variant of…

    Open Access•Maja Bodin, Johanna Björklund•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2022•Cited by: 12•References: 19

In the wake of the ongoing climate crisis and its negative effects on public health, it has been questioned by climate activists whether it is right to bring more children into the world. Moreover, according to previous scholarship, having one fewer child is the most high-impact lifestyle change individuals in developed countries can make in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But do climate awareness and recommendations to have fewer child…

When magicians raise their wands and say “now you see it, now you don’t,” rabbits suddenly disappear—and appear again shortly after. Magic happens. For literary scholars, interpreting texts can feel just as magical: after intense study of a text, we suddenly see something we did not see a

  • Motherhood Gone Wrong: Failure as Resistance in Twenty-First Century Swedish Literature

    Open Access•Johanna Björklund, Jenny Björklund•ARTICLE•Contemporary Women s Writing•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 6

This article investigates three twenty-first century Swedish novels about mothers who leave their children, in light of a contemporary Swedish context, where the nuclear family has gained a stronger position while mothers struggle to balance different ideals. The novels take issue particularly with cultural ideals of good motherhood in two ways. First, the novels represent mothers who engage in a kind of good motherhood that becomes excessive and…

  • Playing with Pistols: Female Masculinity in Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler

    Johanna Björklund, Jenny Björklund•ARTICLE•Scandinavian Studies•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 1

The lead character of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler (1890) one of the most complex and puzzling characters in the history of theater. When the play was published and performed for the first time in the 1890s, it was received with cold surprise and disorientation, and critics found it incomprehensible (Host 1958, 12; Templeton 1997, 204). Over the years, the character Hedda has been interpreted in many different ways: as unreal, as a defective woman…

Two of the large and four of the small farms were organic. Large-scale landscape mosaic and underlying bedrock were similar for all farms. Statistical analysis was performed using box-plots on medians and analysis of variance on mean values. More than…
