  • Evidence for the Impact of a CBT-Based Curriculum for High-Risk Young Adults

    Open Access•Holly Swan, Walter L Campbell et al.•ARTICLE•Crime & Delinquency•2026

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective intervention for individuals involved in the criminal legal system. Roca, Inc., a nonprofit organization that serves the highest risk young adults in Massachusetts and Baltimore, MD, created and implemented a flexible curriculum based on the theoretical tenets of CBT, called Re-Wire. This paper presents results from a mixed-method implementation and impact evaluation—including site observations, …

  • "A Selected Bibliography on the Drug Use(r) "Career

    David E Hunt, Dana Eser Hunt•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•1997•Cited by: 6•References: 6

This paper provides a brief discussion of the issues in examining "heavy" drug use in terms of a "career." This is an old paradigm in drug user research, and one that has produced some of the richest descriptions in the literature. It draws on the analytic approach developed to study other criminal activity in terms of "criminal careers" as well as the literature describing the variety of career "patterns" for substance users. Research into drug …

    David E Hunt•ARTICLE•Curriculum Inquiry•1990

Deborah Britzman's thoughtful review acknowledges that my approach may have value, but emphasizes that it is an approach because I do not deal explicitly with cultural, political, and historical factors. I maintain that every approach to human affairs is necessarily incomplete in so far as emphasis is placed on selected factors, and that the success of an approach depends on its purpose. My purpose, as Elliot Eisner observed, was to provide a res…

  • Drugs and Consensual Crimes: Drug Dealing and Prostitution

    David E Hunt, Dana E Hunt•ARTICLE•Crime and Justice•1990•Cited by: 2

Ethnographic field research has provided important qualitative data on the relation between drugs and consensual crimes, such as drug dealing and prostitution. Dealers often share background characteristics with their clients. Drug use varies from none to daily among dealers, but the proportion of dealers who use the drugs they sell is difficult to assess. Drug-dealing organization varies greatly in its structural complexity; acceptance into deal…

    Open Access•David S Abbey, David E Hunt et al.•ARTICLE•The Counseling Psychologist•1985•Cited by: 4

These modes of experience-Concrete Experience (CE), Reflective Observation (RO), Abstract Conceptualization (AC), and Active Experimentation …

In the Tri-State Ethnographic Project (TRISEP) we found many of the same side effects ascribed to methadone as reported in the clinical literature: constipation, body aches and bone problems, sweating, sexual problems, weight changes, stomach distress, drowsiness and insomnia. Clinical evidence suggests that many reported symptoms may be related to dosage acclimation, interaction of methadone with other drugs, detoxification effects or problems u…

    Open Access•David E Hunt•ARTICLE•Journal of Teacher Education•1976•Cited by: 8•References: 6

Teachers ’ adaptation to students is the heart of the teaching-learning process, yet it remains poorly under-stood. It refers to the moment-to-moment shifts in teacher behavior in response to an individual student, a group of students, or an entire class, as well as shifts over a longer period of time. Such adaptation has been called spontan-eous, intuitive, implicit, or interactive. Teacher adapta-tion varies enormously: some teachers change the…

This report describes two exploratory investigations of relation between personality of trainees and their initial pattern or style of teaching. The major limitation of earlier studies investigating personality is that they have been conducted in a vacuum (Getzels and Jackson, 1963, p. 575). A second limitation of research in this area is reliance upon a single criterion of effectiveness, i.e., the ideal teacher (Getzels and Jackson, 1963, p. 575…
