  • A Dual-Source Indicator of Consumer Confidence

    Open Access•Gordon G Bechtel•ARTICLE•Sociological Methodology•1997•Cited by: 1•References: 6

The objective of this paper is to improve the U.S. leading confidence indicator by combining its amended version with the Conference Board's equally well known Consumer Expectation Index. The resulting dual-source indicator provides a factorial structure in which survey items are nested. The results presented here show that this structure is not well fit by a generalized linear model. Hence a nonlinear model is invoked which provides differential…

  • Are Semantic Response Scales Equivalent

Chezy Ofir, Srinivas K Reddy et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1987

Three frequently used response formats -- Likert, semantic-differential and single anchor (Stapel) -- are compared via analysis of covariance structures. The cumulative results based on four data sets provided evidence inconsistent with previous research suggesting that these formats are interchangeable. Consistently across studies, the semantic-differential format is most preferred while in most cases the Stapel format is least preferred

    Open Access•Jack M Feldman, Iulai Ah Sam et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1980•Cited by: 1•References: 6

Members of European, Maori, and Samoan ethnic groups in New Zealand were predicted to differ in terms of both the evaluation of a sample of job outcomes and their order of preference among these same outcomes. Predictions were made, on the basis of cultural values and the economic situation of the various groups, that Maoris and Samoans generally would prefer and evaluate "particularistic" outcomes (that is, personalistic exchanges of love, statu…
