    The contemporary popular music audience in Japan is exposed to a large variety of music, both domestic and imported; tastes are well defined. In particular, such factors as: the singer's 'image', what I call maintaining a standard formula, ambiguity and sentimentalism can be pinpointed as important to the music's appeal.
