    Open Access•Willis D Copeland•ARTICLE•Journal of Teacher Education•1989•References: 14

Copeland presents a proposal forthe de velopment of a genre of pre-student teaching laboratory experiences in tended to assist novice teachers in the development of their clinical reasoning. These experiences would be composed of highly interactive, technology- mediated simulations and a set of ac tivities intended to encourage reflection on the student teacher's experience with the simulations. Contributions to this de velopment, such as experie…

  • Classroom Management and Student Teachers' Cognitive Abilities

    Willis D Copeland•ARTICLE•American Educational Research…•1987

A computer-administered test battery was created to collect measurements of teachers’ multiple-attention and vigilance skills that are hypothesized to be related to successful classroom management. Measurements from this battery were tested for correlations with observed teacher management behavior and student on-task behavior. Results are discussed in terms of models that explain teacher interactive decisionmaking and in terms of prospects for i…

The isolation of teachers is a well- documented phenomenon. The authors argue that an approach to counter this isolation is training teachers in colleagiali ty during the teacher preparation pro gram. Such training requires a program that accommodates and encourages dialogue among prospective teachers. The benefits of colleagial observation and interaction are described by Cope land and Jamgochian, and one example of how teacher educators are str…

Willis D. Copeland University of California Santa Barbara, California Student teachers' ability to use many skills they learn during their university training depends not only on the quality of the initial training they receive but on the environment in which they must practice use of those skills, their student teaching classrooms. This finding, a result of a series of research projects I have conducted with the Teacher Preparation Program of th…

    Willis D Copeland•ARTICLE•American Educational Research…•1977•Cited by: 3•References: 7

The present study explored possible relationships between the intervention behaviors of cooperating teachers and the classroom exhibition by student teachers of skills’ acquired in microteaching training. Sixty-one teaching credential candidates engaged in student teaching were randomly assigned to positive and negative levels of three variables including microteaching training, training in supervision received by subjects’ cooperating teacher, a…
