  • Comparison of the Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression among Older Versus Younger Veterans: Results of a National Evaluation

Bradley E Karlin, Mickey Trockel et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2013•References: 3

CBT-D resulted in significant improvements in depression and quality of life among older patients. Outcomes and rate of attrition were equivalent to younger patients. Findings indicate that CBT-D is an effective and acceptable treatment for older veterans in real-world settings with often high levels of depression

  • Intraindividual Variability in Basic Reaction Time Predicts Middle-Aged and Older Pilots' Flight Simulator Performance

Quinn Kennedy, J Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2012•Cited by: 1

IIV plays an important role in real-world tasks and is another aspect of cognition that underlies age-related differences in cognitive performance

  • Initial Cognitive Performance Predicts Longitudinal Aviator Performance

Jerome A Yesavage, Booil Jo et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2011•References: 3

These data suggest that longitudinal performance on an important real-world activity can be predicted by initial assessment of relevant cognitive abilities

  • Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor in Combination With Cognitive Training in Older Adults

Jerome A Yesavage, Leah Friedman et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2008•References: 2

To determine if donepezil, an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor, improved the assimilation of cognitive training by older adults with memory complaints, we gave 168 nondemented, community-dwelling volunteers with memory complaints either 5 mg of donepezil (Aricept) or placebo daily for 6 weeks in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The dosage rose to 10 mg daily for another 6 weeks before a 2-week course of cognitive trainin…

  • Should One Use Medications in Combination With Cognitive Training? If So, Which Ones

Jerome A Yesavage, Jerome Yesavage et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2007

In this article, we review current research regarding diagnosis of cognitive impairment in nondemented adults and discuss why medications and cognitive training together may be more beneficial than either alone. We also review potential cognitive enhancers and future research challenges. There are major reasons for such research: (a) Large numbers of older adults without dementia but with cognitive problems are not treatable with current cognitiv…

  • Cognitive interventions to improve faceame recall: The role of personality trait differences

Peter Gratzinger, Javaid I Sheikh et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1990

  • Cognitive interventions to improve face-name recall: The role of personality trait differences

    Peter Gratzinger, Javaid I Sheikh et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1990•Cited by: 1•References: 3

To explore the relationship of personality trait differences to the ability of older adults to benefit from an intervention to improve face-name recall, 3 previously validated methods of intervention were used in conjunction with the NEO Personality Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1985b). Subjects were 156 community-dwelling elderly. The three treatment conditions all included a standard imagery mnemonic for remembering names and faces but differed in…

  • Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS): Recent Evidence and Development of a Shorter Version

    Jerome A Yesavage, Javaid I Sheikh•ARTICLE•Clinical Gerontologist•1986

No abstract available for this article.

  • Concurrent Validity of the Overcontrolled Hostility Scale for Psychotics

    Open Access•Paul D Werner, Jacqueline Becker et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1983

MMPI Overcontrolled Hostility scores of 31 male psychotic inpatients correlated negligibly with scores on measures of expressed hostility and assaultiveness. The scale does not appear useful as an index of potential for violence by acute inpatients

  • Mathematical and empirical development of a test of memory for clinical and research use

    Helena C Kraemer, Cecilia A Peabody et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•1983

  • Mathematical and empirical development of a test of memory for clinical and research use

  • Screening Tests for Geriatric Depression

    T L Brink, Jerome A Yesavage et al.•ARTICLE•Clinical Gerontologist•1982

Contends that the diagnosis of depression in aged patients is the responsibility of both psychologists, and non-psychologists, for it is the latter that is most likely to make initial contact with an elder in need of help. Describes problems in the use of psychometric tests to identify geriatric depression. Reviews the advantages and disadvantages and limitations of scales currently employed. Introduces a new Geriatric Depression Scale and demons…

  • Development and validation of a geriatric depression screening scale: A preliminary report

    Open Access•Jerome A Yesavage, T L Brink et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychiatric Research•1982

  • Analysis of Responses to the Personal Opinion Survey by a Sample of Inpatients

    Open Access•Paul D Werner, Jacqueline Becker et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1982

The utility of employing the Personal Opinion Survey as a measure of experienced control with psychiatric inpatients was examined for a sample of 71 patients in a psychiatric acute-care setting. Retest correlations suggested that 5 of the 7 scales were relatively stable over a 1- to 2-wk. interval. Correlations between scores on the survey and ratings of patients on the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale were presented and discussed, as were relation…
