Popular but Poorly Defined: A Scoping Review of Youth Diversion Schemes
This scoping review describes youth diversion schemes, with a key focus on how diversion is defined, implemented, and evaluated. We provide a narrative synthesis of 68 studies and examine key components of each diversion scheme, including: eligibility and exclusion criteria, timing of diversion, the mechanism of intervention, outcome measures and key findings. We identify which schemes appear most promising, while highlighting methodological limi…

Social Identity in Northern Ireland
In an attempt to explore the importance of various religious ethnic and political social identities in Northern Ireland, 991 young people (60% Protestants, 40% Catholics) were asked to choose among various bipolar adjectives and then to rank order the terms chosen. The results indicated that the Catholic-Protestant dimension was the most frequently chosen and most highly rated ethnopolitical category but that some cross-cutting occurred on all ca…
Conservatism and its relationship to general and specific ethnocentrism in Northern Ireland
Measures of conservatism, general ethnocentrism and ethnocentrism specifically related to Northern Irish ethnopolitical ideas were obtained from Protestant and Catholic, male and female adolescents. These suggested that while both groups are equally conservative this was related to specific Northern Irish ethnocentrism only for the Protestant group. It was suggested that this may be related to the fact that the Catholic (minority) group fail to s…
Gender differences in the integration of conservatism, sex urge, and sexual behaviors among college students
Separate oblique factor analyses of anonymous questionnaire returns from 224 university undergraduates indicated that females, while generally being more conservative, exhibited greater integration of sexual attitudes and liberal/conservative personality characteristics with their sexual practices than did the males. The liberal‐conservative personality/attitude dimension was assessed using measures of authoritarianism, a sex attitude scale, a dr…
Drug Use, Drug-Use Attitudes, and the Authoritarianism-Rebellion Dimension
This article examines the relationships between drug use and drug-use attitudes on the one hand, and sociopolitical ideology on the other. The latter was assessed by the recently developed Authoritarianism-Rebellion Scale (ARS). It was found that more rebellious respondents are generally more permissive about drugs and more likely to use drugs, notably marijuana, than their more authoritarian peers. Some theoretical, psychometric, and social-poli…
