Building resilient communities
This article examines the role of public spaces like farmers’ markets in sustaining urban communities during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper, we report on the dynamics of motivations to farm among farmers in Newfoundland, and the potential to leverage these motives in policy interventions. The paper is the outcome of interviews with 24 farmers and two focus group discussions in the period 2017–2018. In this article, we examine the development of a new, experiential learning human geography and planning course at a smaller campus in Newfoundland, Canada. Through this paper, we seek to re-imagine and challenge the meaning of archival spaces. While archival spaces are repositories of information, they are also sites where cultural values and public memory are shaped, and forms of power enacted. Geographies of Exclusion
Originating in the work of David Sibley in 1995, the term “geographies of exclusion” refers to the ways through which some social groups are signaled as being unwelcome in urban and rural spaces. Exclusion is structural in nature and is seen as the product of nuanced forms of social pressure and negative interpersonal interaction. This article examines the meaning of public space and impact of heritage-led urban redevelopment in a diverse neighbourhood in Montpellier, France. Focusing on street‐side vending of fresh mint and herbs in the F rench city of Montpellier, this paper considers the difference between illegal and informal vending, and the regulatory mechanisms deployed by municipal and police actors in the push to eradicate illegality.
