  • Detection of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Black-Horned Capuchin Monkeys, Brazil

Open Access•Iago José da Silva Domingos, Iara Monteiro de Almeida et al.•ARTICLE•EcoHealth•2026

We carried out a viral surveillance study on 30 black-horned capuchin monkeys ( Sapajus nigritus ) in Rio Doce State Park, a protected area in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Samples were tested for orthopoxviruses, flaviviruses, coronaviruses, influenza viruses, and a wide range of other respiratory viruses using molecular and serological methods. RT-qPCR detected the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) genome in oral swabs from two asymptomatic ju…

  • Local Ecological Knowledge on the Natural History and Human-Fauna Relationships of the Brazilian Three-banded Armadillo (Tolypeutes tricinctus) in Northeast Brazil

Open Access•Rodolfo Assis Magalhães, Rodolfo Magalhães et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnobiology•2024•References: 55

Local ecological knowledge (LEK) can be a valuable source of information about species' biology and their conservation, especially for threatened and poorly known species, such as the Brazilian three-banded armadillo ( Tolypeutes tricinctus). Here, we gathered information about the natural history and human-fauna relationships of T. tricinctus based on the LEK of residents from a rural community in northeast Brazil, where a population of T. trici…

  • Diet, activity patterns, and home range use in forest and cultivated areas for one wild group of endangered crested capuchin monkeys ( Sapajus robustus ) in Reserva Natural Vale, Espírito Santo, Brazi…

Open Access•Waldney Pereira Martins, Patrícia Izar et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2022

Robust capuchin monkeys ( Sapajus spp.) are distributed widely in the Neotropics and may be able to survive in modified landscapes because of their omnivorous, opportunistic diet. The poorly known and endangered crested capuchin monkey ( Sapajus robustus ) is endemic to the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo states, Brazil. We collected data on diet and home range for a crested capuchin group with access to forest and culti…

  • Collapse of national protected areas in Brazil

Open Access•Matteus Carvalho Ferreira, Lucas Neves Perillo et al.•ARTICLE•PARKS•2020

Historically, Brazil has played a prominent role as a member of the Convention on Biological Diversity and as a signatory to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and several other international environmental agreements. Aiming to evaluate the management of investment in protected areas during the past 12 years, we have analysed the annual budgets of National Protected Areas located in Minas Gerais. This state comprises three different biomes, in…
