  • Evaluation of a sex-positive, youth-centred online pornography literacy intervention for adolescents

Katie Dawson, Kate Dawson et al.•ARTICLE•Sex Education•2025

A range of pornography literacy programmes and interventions exist to address some of the developmental concerns prompted by adolescent pornography use. Interventions to date have typically developed in line within a harm reduction approach. However, contemporary youth-centred frameworks for literacy more generally suggest that pornography literacy interventions could also contribute towards more positive outcomes for adolescents. However, this h…

  • Addressing challenges faced by young refugees in the Netherlands

Open Access•Cansu Alözkan, Pim Cuijpers et al.•ARTICLE•Cambridge Prisms Global Mental…•2024

Young refugees face numerous challenges before, during, and after their journey, leading to higher rates of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. These problems often remain untreated due to barriers like limited services, stigma, and varied distress expressions. One effective scalable intervention that bridges this treatment gap is problem management plus (PM+), a transdiagnostic program delivered b…

  • Efficacy of a brief psychological intervention to reduce distress in healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic

Naser Morina, Sonja Weilenmann et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2023

This trial provides initial evidence that a brief psychological intervention delivered via videoconferencing results in significant reductions in mental health problems arising during the COVID-19 pandemic. Booster sessions or digital tools may be needed to maintain the initial gains achieved by RECHARGE. This intervention may have utility in improving the mental health of HCWs both during pandemics and everyday stressors. (PsycInfo Database Reco…

  • A sand-security nexus

Open Access•Kofi Yeboah Asare, Katie Dawson et al.•ARTICLE•The Extractive Industries and…•2023•Cited by: 5•References: 11

An expanding sphere of research engaging with the diverse geographies of sand, points to connections between sand extraction and the multiple forms of livelihood, food, health and ecological insecurities engendered therein. In conversation with this work, we suggest that the notion of security might be just one possible way of discussing the multiple relationships between sand and socio-ecological conditions. In this paper, we put forward the not…

  • Covid-19 Riskscapes

    Open Access•Eliot Storer, Katie Dawson et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Anthropology•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 54

In this article we explore Covid-19 riskscapes across the African Great Lakes region. Drawing on fieldwork across Uganda and Malawi, our analysis centers around how two mobile, trans-border figures - truck drivers and migrant traders - came to be understood as shifting, yet central loci of perceived viral risk. We argue that political decision-making processes, with specific reference to the influence of Covid-19 testing regimes and reported dise…

  • The Cultural and Contextual Adaptation Process of an Intervention to Reduce Psychological Distress in Young Adolescents Living in Lebanon

Open Access•Felicity L Brown, May Aoun et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Armed conflict leads to increased risk of emotional distress among children and adolescents, and increased exposure to significant daily stressors such as poverty and community and family violence. Unfortunately, these increased risks usually occur in the context of largely unavailable mental health services. There is growing empirical support that evidence-based treatment techniques can be adapted and delivered by non-specialists with high fidel…

  • Using a person-generated mental health outcome measure in large clinical trials in Kenya and Pakistan

Open Access•Melissa Harper Shehadeh, Edith van’t Hof et al.•ARTICLE•Transcultural Psychiatry•2020

Health care should be informed by the physical, socioeconomic, mental, and emotional well-being of the person, and account for social circumstances and culture. Patient-generated outcome measures can contribute positively to mental health research in culturally diverse populations. In this study, we analysed qualitative responses to the Psychological Outcome Profiles (PSYCHLOPS) Questionnaire—a patient-generated outcome measure based on open-ende…

Open Access•Edith van’t Hof, Katie Dawson et al.•ARTICLE•Cambridge Prisms Global Mental…•2018

The findings across diverse stakeholders show that PM+ is largely acceptable in this Kenyan setting. The results indicated that when further implemented, PM+ could be of great value to people in communities exposed to adversities such as interpersonal violence and chronic poverty. Barriers to large-scale implementation were identified, of which the sustainability of the non-specialist health workforce was the most important one
