  • How well do participants understand the questions asked in the Online Personal Utility Functions (Opuf) approach? A cognitive debrief of the EQ-HWB-S (EQ Health and Wellbeing Short version) valuation

Open Access•Tessa Peasgood, Nancy Devlin et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2025

Think-aloud and probing interviews with 27 participants completing the OPUF identified multiple concerns, to the extent that their data is unlikely to be a valid reflection of their preferences. The extent of concerns identified here suggests the need for interviewer led data collection within OPUF to ensure data quality

  • Associations between financial toxicity, health-related quality of life, and well-being in Indonesian patients with breast cancer

Open Access•Stevanus Pangestu, Fredrick Dermawan Purba et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2025

This study is the first to explore the associations between financial toxicity, EQ-5D-5L, and EQ-HWB outcomes in breast cancer. Our findings provide insight into the cancer burden and its link to health and well-being

  • Understanding UK public views on normative decisions made to value health-related quality of life in children

    Open Access•Philip A Powell, Donna Rowen et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 21

Developing methodology for measuring and valuing child health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a priority for health technology agencies. One aspect of this is normative decisions that are made in child HRQoL valuation. This qualitative study aimed to better understand adult public opinion on the normative questions of whose preferences to elicit (adults, children, or both) and from which perspective (who should be imagined living in impaired h…

  • Who should value children's health and how? An international Delphi study

    Open Access•Philip A Powell, Donna Rowen et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2024•References: 46

Valuing child health necessitates normative methodological decisions on whose preferences should be elicited and who should be imagined as experiencing impaired health. Formal guidance is limited and expert consensus unclear. This study sought to establish the degree of consensus among expert stakeholders on normative issues of who to ask and who should be imagined when valuing child health (7-17 years) to inform UK health technology assessment. …

  • A qualitative investigation of the relevance of skin irritation and self-confidence bolt-ons and their conceptual overlap with the EQ-5D in patients with psoriasis

Open Access•Fanni Rencz, Clara Mukuria et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2022

The skin irritation and self-confidence bolt-ons contribute to improve content validity of the EQ-5D-5L in patients with psoriasis. The qualitative approach taken in this study expands the existing methodological framework for the development and testing validity of bolt-ons for the EQ-5D

  • Developing an Australian utility value set for MacNew-7D health states

Open Access•Sanjeewa Kularatna, Gang Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2022

  • Assessing the comparative feasibility, acceptability and equivalence of videoconference interviews and face-to-face interviews using the time trade-off technique

    Open Access•Donna Rowen, Clara Mukuria et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 1

  • Development of a preference-based heart disease-specific health state classification system using MacNew heart disease-related quality of life instrument

Open Access•Sanjeewa Kularatna, Donna Rowen et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2021

  • The role of response domain and scale label in the quantitative interpretation of patient-reported outcome measure response options

Open Access•Tessa Peasgood, J Chang et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2021

Members of the public quantify common response options in a similar way, but their quantification is not equivalent across domains or every type of respondent. Recommendations for the use of certain scale labels over others in PROM development are provided

  • Criteria for item selection for a preference-based measure for use in economic evaluation

Open Access•Tessa Peasgood, Clara Mukuria et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2020

Preference-based measures allow patients to report their level of health, and the responses are then scored using preference weights from a representative general population sample for use in cost utility analysis. The development process of new preference-based measures should ensure that valid items are selected to reflect the constructs of interest included in the measure and that are suitable for use in preference-elicitation exercises. Exist…

  • Th Annual Conference of the International Society for Quality of Life Research

Open Access•Tessa Peasgood, Clara Mukuria et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2020

Aims: eRAPID is an online eHealth system for patients to report symptoms during cancer treatment. It provides automated severitydependent advice to patients guiding self-management or medical contact. Patient reports are transferred to the electronic patient records for immediate use in patient care. This trial evaluated the impact of eRAPID on symptom control, clinical care, patient self-efficacy, and quality of life (QOL). Methods: A prospectiv…

  • Impact of social prescribing to address loneliness

Open Access•Alexis Foster, Jill Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2020•Cited by: 5•References: 1

Loneliness is considered a global public health issue because of its detrimental impact on physical and mental health but little is known about which interventions can reduce loneliness. One potential intervention is social prescribing, where a link worker helps service-users to access appropriate support such as community activities and social groups. Some qualitative studies have identified that social prescribing may help to reduce service-use…

  • Sensitivity and responsiveness of the EQ-5D-3L in patients with uncontrolled focal seizures

Open Access•Clara Mukuria, Tracey Young et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2016

EQ-5D-3L had weak-to-moderate correlations with QOLIE-31P and varied with QOLIE-31P severity groups, but showed less responsiveness than QOLIE-31P. Given this lack of sensitivity, EQ-5D-3L may not be appropriate for measuring the impact of interventions in cost-effectiveness analysis in this population and disease-specific preference-based measures may be more appropriate
