    Open Access•Pál Raczky, Gábor Kalla et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologiai Értesítő•2025•References: 9

The settlement of Tiszaigar lies some 10 km south of Tiszafüred in the northern Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. A site known as Tiszaigar-Homokbánya extends over a roughly 250 × 150 m large area about 500 m south of the village, to the north of the entrance to the Arboretum, on the high bluff overlooking the floodplain and a former curved channel of the Tisza to the west. A large, abandoned quarry pit with a diameter of 100 m, whose depth rea…

Open Access•Attila Demény, György Czuppon et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2024

A stalagmite was collected in northern Hungary from the Vacska Cave, where monitoring and ventilation-based site selection had been conducted. The stalagmite covers the 10–8 ka (relative to AD 1950) period, including the so-called 8.2 ka event, and showed preceding signs of climate change that were evaluated by petrographic observations, 14 C activities, Sr concentrations, and stable isotope compositions of calcite and inclusion-hosted water. Open Access•Orsolya Heinrich-Tamáska, Máté Szabó et al.•ARTICLE•Hungarian Archaeology•2024

The provinces along the Danube of the Roman Empire, including Pannonia, played a crucial role in Late Antique imperial politics. Their importance is attested at social, military, and economic levels, and the changes they underwent are also reflected in the Roman countryside. In Pannonia, villae and the so-called inner fortifications are excellent indicators of this process. Our research focuses on the landscape-shaping effect, the architectural c…

A Duna-menti tartományok, így Pannonia is meghatározó szerepet játszottak a késő római birodalmi poli-tikában. Ennek jelentőségét egyaránt megfigyelhetjük a társadalmi, katonai és gazdasági területeken, és ezeket a változásokat hordozza magában a római vidék is. A folyamatok kitűnő indikátorai Pannoniában a villagazdaságok és az ezekhez szorosan kapcsolódó ún. belső erődök. Kutatásainkban a villaépületek és villagazdaságok tájformáló hatásával, é…

Near Nyergesújfalu (Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary), objects of a Hunnic-period sacrificial assemblage were found in 2021. The Hunnic period assemblage contains fifteen items altogether: four gold lunular mounts, six cellwork-decorated gold oval mounts, two cellwork-decorated gold suspension rings, two gold buckles and fragments of a scale-patterned gilded silver plate. The present study aims to determine the elemental composition of the metal…

  • Vertical differentiation of pedogenic iron forms – a key of hydromorphic soil profile development

Open Access•Marianna Ringer, Gergely Jakab et al.•ARTICLE•Hungarian Geographical Bulletin•2021

This paper focuses on the vertical distribution and characterisation of pedogenic iron forms in a Gleysol- Histosol transect developed in a marshy area in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve, Hungary. Four soil profiles were investigated along a series of increasing waterlogging and spatial and temporal patterns of hydromorphic pedofeatures (characteristics of pedogenic iron forms) were recorded. Frequent and wide-range redox potential (Eh) changes cause…

Open Access•Bernadett Bajnóczi, Máté Szabó et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2021•References: 11

Colourful and artistic ceramic panel paintings that realistically imitate oil paintings were one of the innovations of the Hungarian Zsolnay ceramic factory. Ten large ceramic panel paintings and two overdoor compositions (each containing three panels) decorated the Saint Stephen Hall in the palace of the Buda Castle (Budapest) established around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. However, the ceramic paintings were destroyed during World W…

However, the production technology of the coloured-glazed vessels, specifically the nature of the glaze, is a matter of debate among scholars. Both coloured tin glaze and coloured engobe covered with a transparent lead glaze were thought to have been applied on the ceramics. Around 140 objects of blue-glazed Hutt…
