The Biography of a Scale
The subject of instrument relevance is addressed by examining issues that have arisen in the use of a single scale over a forty year period. The issues revolve around the impact of varying social conditions, changing ethos, differential respondent receptiveness, and evolving research technology. Probing the Validity of Normative Data
Data validity is as critical an issue for practice as it is for research. This Research Note is a brief account of an effort to subject family functioning data to a validity analysis by using multiple informants. Results indicate that knowledge about variations in degree of validity by subject areas canenhance the quality of data for use in professional practice
Forced Exit From Welfare
A study of 129 families in one New Jersey county who had been terminated from public assistance as a result of federal cutbacks in 1981 revealed severe hardships in such basic areas as food, clothing, housing and medical care. The study found that within this disadvantaged group, Hispanic and black families were the most deprived. Contextual Aspects of Sexual Communication Marriage
As part of a larger research project on the relationship of family functioning to neighborhood and ethnic factors, the present study examined effects of a series of environmental variables on the sexual functioning of family heads. Sixty juvenile offenders placed on probation in three provincial centers surrounding the city of Melbourne, Australia were studied over a 15 month period.
