  • Books of Mercy

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Journal for…•2026

This contribution examines how the discourse of mercy reshapes the understanding of God’s names in the Bible and the Qurʾan at decisive historical-theological turning points. In the Bible, Exodus 34:6–7 reveals a foundational articulation of the divine name in which mercy and justice are held in tension but asymmetrically ordered, while Hosea 11 dramatizes a reversal in which God’s heart turns against his own wrath. A comparable dynamic appears i…

  • The Speaking Body

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Journal for…•2024

More than any other biblical book, the Song of Songs has over the centuries generated a tumultuous conflict of interpretations, which divide between an overly sacred allegorism and an excessive profane materialism of the text. This article addresses the hermeneutical question of the Canticle and considers the corporeality of its language, in which the question of meaning cannot be separated from the question of the body and its affections. The ph…

  • Beyond the Sacrificial Fantasy

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Open Theology•2024

From its origins, the Christian religious imaginary has been inhabited by the sacrificial fantasy, which finds its most radical symbol in the crucified body. According to the principle of imitatio Jesu , believers have always been called to consider pain as an experience to be lived and shared with Christ, to be offered to him as a gift of self to the Other. Already the masters of suspicion condemned this ascetic-religious cult of sacrifice and s…

  • Wounded Beauty

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Religions•2023•References: 7

In their different languages, codes of expression, practices and worldviews, art and religion share a reflexive intention to symbolize the chaos, suffering and ambivalence of the real. In particular, the aesthetic programme of Christianity has sought to combine the opposites of divine revelation attested in Scripture: chaos and cosmos, earth and heaven, betrayal and reconciliation, wounding and transfiguration, cross and resurrection, sin and for…

  • The Pauline Understanding of Life in the Young Heidegger (1920–21)

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Journal for…•2019

In the years after the First World War many authors returned to the Apostle Paul to rethink the meaning of history in a time of crisis. In this period the problem of time represents a crucial topic of Heidegger’s philosophy as well, through which he reconsiders the meaning of the Being of the whole metaphysical tradition. Heidegger already develops his reconsideration of temporality in his early Freiburg lectures on the phenomenology of religious…

  • Rethinking Parrhesia. Theological-Political Considerations on the Present Crisis of Religious Representation

    Open Access•Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Journal for…•2018

In the Old Testament, the figure of prophecy represents the protest against the political and sacerdotal power through a person who is external or excluded from the system. In Israel, sacredness and sovereignty separated themselves, not only allowing resistance against abuses of power but also giving the chance of another word of justice and truth. The first part of this contribution aims to show the role this eccentric word played in the first d…

  • Factic Life-Experience and Primordial Temporality

    Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Annali di Scienze Religiose•2015

The problem of time represents a crucial topic in Heidegger’s philosophy, through which he rethinks the meaning of the Being of the whole metaphysical tradition. The article deals with the analysis of the category of temporality that Heidegger developed in his early Freiburg lectures on the phenomenology of religious life and focuses especially on the phenomenological interpretation of Paul’s epistles. The proclamation of the apostle introduces i…

  • Katargein and Aufheben

    Isabella Guanzini•ARTICLE•Annali di Scienze Religiose•2014

Hegel’s Jugendschriften represent a privileged way in the understanding of the whole Hegelian speculative system. This essay aims at illustrating the first development of the fundamental axis of Hegel’s thought, highlighting the traits of a significant presence of the theology of the apostle Paul in the philosopher’s early writings. From this recognition emerges that Hegel’s juvenile post-Kantian turn has a specific correlation with the backgroun…
