A multi-period riverine landscape narrative of the Ure Valley north of the Roman town of Aldborough ( Isurium Brigantum )
Geoarchaeological survey and palaeoenvironmental analyses were conducted in the floodplain of the river Ure to the north of the Roman town of Isurium Brigantum (Aldborough, North Yorkshire) as part of a complementary campaign of geophysical survey and excavations (2018–2024). In this paper, we draw attention to several regions of England where the knowledge of Iron Age and Roman settlement has reached a level of 'abundance' such that what we can say about the past goes beyond simply creating a gazetteer of 'sites', or discussing the presence or absence of particular settlement types. We explore how this level of 'abundance' has come about, and what the wider implications are interpretatively and for future work

An Early Roman Fort at Thirkleby, North Yorkshire
This paper reports the discovery through aerial photography of a Roman fort at Thirkleby, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. It appears to have two structural phases, and surface finds indicate that it dates from the Flavian period. The significance of its location on the intersection of routes north–south along the edge of the Vale of York and east–west connecting Malton and Aldborough is discussed in the context of Roman annexation of the North

EXCAVATIONS took place on the northern city walls of Bath adjacent to the site of the North Gate. A 2nd-century rampart was later cut back to receive a perimeter wall, fronted by a newly-metalled berm. A wide ditch beyond this was probably of 4th-century date.
