Red Cross first aid training and its effect on public first-aid competency: An empirical study of influencing factors
Objective To assess the level of first-aid competency among the public in Jingmen City after receiving Red Cross first aid training and to identify its influencing factors. Methods From January to December 2025, a combined approach of offline training, questionnaire surveys, and skill assessments was adopted. A self-designed questionnaire on training awareness and a training support scale were administered to 2,897 residents in Jingmen City. Univ…
TGR-T: Truncated-Gaussian-Weighted Reliability for Adaptive Dynamic Thresholding in Weakly Supervised Indoor 3D Point Cloud Segmentation
Indoor 3D point cloud semantic segmentation is a fundamental task for fine-grained scene understanding and intelligent perception. Due to the prohibitive cost of dense point-wise annotations, weakly supervised learning has emerged as a promising alternative for indoor point cloud segmentation. However, existing weakly supervised methods commonly rely on fixed confidence thresholds for pseudo-label selection, which exhibit limited generalization c…
The neural correlates of pausing behaviours in L2 writing
This study is the first to explore the neural correlates of cognitive processes proposed in models of writing, combining fMRI scanning with keystroke logging to bring together insights from neuroscience and behavioural research. We focused on a key writing mechanism, pausing; specifically, we examined how pause location (within words, between words/sentences) may relate to neural processes. The participants were 21 intermediate-level Japanese uni…

Comparative effectiveness of Tai Chi, Baduanjin, and health education for knee osteoarthritis: Protocol of a three-arm randomized controlled trial
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability. With projections indicating 642 million affected individuals globally by 2050, identifying safe, scalable, and potentially disease-modifying non-pharmacological interventions is an urgent public health priority. This study aims to compare the clinical effectiveness of Tai Chi, Baduanjin, and a health-education programme in preserving joint function and quality…

Motivations of Novice and Experienced Female Chinese Applied Linguistics Researchers to Participate in Peer Reviews
This article reports on an exploratory inquiry into the experiences of novice and experienced female Chinese applied linguistics researchers in their roles as peer reviewers. Using an ecological perspective to situate self‐determination theory, we interpret participants' accounts of reviewing, gathered through semi‐structured interviews, in this inquiry. The analysis suggests that the mesosystem (i.e., institution) has the most noticeable impact …
Online takeaway food consumption and its association with health among young and middle-aged urban residents in mainland China: A cross-sectional study
This study suggests that online takeaway food consumption in urban China is a significant lifestyle, posing a risk of foodborne illness and associating with poorer diet quality and physical health status to a certain extent. Monitoring of food safety and fake review in food delivery should be strengthened, along with public education on nutrition. Further clinical research should evaluate the association between online takeaway food consumption a…

Chinese Researchers’ Orientation Toward Peer Review Through the Lens of Engagement
Peer review plays a critical role in improving the quality of the manuscripts under review and the dissemination of academic knowledge. Previous research on peer review has largely focused on review reports—i.e., the products of peer review—while less attention has been paid to researchers’ orientations toward the review process. This study examines peer review orientation through the lens of engagement, focusing on 16 Chinese researchers’ engage…
Validity and Predictiveness of the 2 × 2 Model of L2 Self‐Guides: Revisiting the Relationship Between Motivation and L2 Communication
The 2 × 2 model of L2 self‐guides, a motivational framework, contains four components—ideal L2 self/own, ideal L2 self/other, ought‐to L2 self/own, and ought‐to L2 self/other—which is considered more reflective of the continuity of learning motivation than traditional models. However, it has been validated only in a few studies and primarily in relation to more general measures of motivated behavior. The present study further evaluates the applic…
Processing Instruction Versus Traditional Instruction: The Transfer-of-Training Effects on Chinese EFL Learners
This research investigated the impact of processing instruction (PI) on the acquisition of the English third-person singular present tense by Chinese English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) learners and whether this effect would extend to the acquisition of other language components. This study featured the pretest-immediate-posttest design and participants were required to participate in all tests (pretest, immediate posttest, delayed posttest). Two…
The Effect of Explicit Information in Processing Instruction on Middle School Students’ Acquisition of English Passive Voice
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of explicit information (EI) in the context of Processing Instruction (PI) as an alternative to traditional teaching methods. PI encompasses explicit information and structured input activity (SI). However, the effectiveness of EI has been a subject of debate. To address this question, grade-7 students were divided into three groups: the complete Processing Instruction group, the explicit informati…
Association between non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) and kidney stone: Evidence from NHANES 2007–2018
Elevated NHHR levels were found to be associated with an increased risk of kidney stones. Based on these findings, NHHR appears to be a promising predictive indicator for the occurrence of kidney stones

Doing reviews is an unpaid service”: Why female Chinese novice applied linguistics researchers choose to participate in the peer review process
This article reports on an exploratory inquiry conducted with female Chinese novice researchers in the field of applied linguistics in relation to their experiences of serving as peer reviewers. Drawing on self‐determination theory, I analyzed and interpreted the accounts of reviewing that the participants shared through semi‐structured interviews. The analysis revealed that these female Chinese novice researchers were extrinsically motivated to …

Case clustering, contact stratification, and transmission heterogeneity of Sars-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5 variants in Urumqi, China: An observational study
Background: From August to September 2022, Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China, faced its largest COVID-19 outbreak caused by the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5.2 variants. Although the superspreading of COVID-19 played an important role in triggering large-scale outbreaks, little was known about the superspreading potential and heterogeneity in the transmission of Omicron BA.5 variants. Methods: In this…
Comparison of mothers’ perceptions of hunger cues in 3-month-old infant under different feeding methods
EBF mothers of 3-month-old infants may be more likely to perceive infant hunger cues than FF mothers in China. It is necessary to increase the health education about infant hunger and satiety cues to caregivers in China, especially among mothers with lower education levels, mothers living in nuclear families, and FF mothers

Challenges in multi-language pronunciation teaching: A cross-linguistic study of Chinese students’ perception of voiced and voiceless stops
This article reports on a cross-linguistic study of 58 Chinese students’ perception of voiced and voiceless stops in their third language (L3). The participants were Japanese, Russian, or Spanish major students in a Chinese university, who were beginner learners of these languages but who had all learned English as their second language (L2) for over 10 years. The purpose of this study was to investigate the L3 learners’ perceptual differences in…
