  • Using Responsive Evaluation to Evaluate a Professional Conference

Open Access•Amy N Spiegel, Amy Spiegel et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Evaluation•1999•Cited by: 2

In a statewide conference on alternative methods for assessing students’ learning, we incorporated responsive evaluation methods into the structure of the conference. The application of these interactive evaluation techniques serves as a pilot study that illustrates the possible utility of these techniques in evaluating conferences. This paper provides a brief review of the literature surrounding responsive evaluation, a description of the respon…

    Open Access•John A Glover, John W Zimmer et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1979

The comprehension section of the Nelson-Denny reading test was administered to 84 undergraduate participants who then read an 1800-word passage and were required to write free-recall summaries of what they had read. Participants were separated into quartiles for the data analysis with comparisons made between the upper and lower quartiles. Significant differences between the upper and lower quartiles were observed for both structural and thematic…

  • Interactive Effects of Mnemonic Techniques and Word-List Characteristics

    Open Access•Barabar A Manning, Roger H Bruning•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1975

The study investigated hypothesized interactive effects of two widely used mnemonic strategies, the First-letter and Descriptive-story techniques, with acquisition and recall of Concrete and Abstract words. Additionally, imagery level of peg words within the First-letter mnemonic technique was varied. Results indicated differential effects in early acquisition stages and in 24-hour recall. Specifically, the First-letter technique, with high image…
