Applying Community-Based Participatory Research to Create a Diabetes Prevention Documentary with New Zealand Māori
A CBPR approach provides an appropriate model for enacting local action-oriented approaches in the creation of a documentary that reflects Māori cultural beliefs and practices
BDSM Disclosure and Stigma Management
While participation in the activities like bondage, domination, submission/sadism, masochism that fall under the umbrella term BDSM is widespread, stigma surrounding BDSM poses risks to practitioners who wish to disclose their interest. Aids
Prevention through appropriate behavior is the best weapon available to fight further spread of HIV infection. Communication, Language and Health
In this special issue, we directed our attention to the study of language and relationships within the health context in order to fill what we saw as a lacuna in the existing literature. We compare and contrast the six articles presented in this issue on four important conceptual dimensions. Each article represents a different approach to discourse analysis, and the articles vary as to which key construct in human communication they examine. Vari…
Reaching those at Risk
The purpose of this study was to analyze televised public service announcements (PSAs) on acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) to determine how health communicators had responded to the challenge of developing messages on sensitive health issues for mass audiences. Specifically, this article reports the findings of a content analysis of 127 televised AIDS PSAs, focusing on two key issues that campaign planners face: (a) selecting and adapti…
