Assessment of health-related quality of life in Australian patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
The EQ-5D-5L demonstrated superior performance when compared to AQoL-8D in persons with IPF. This may be attributable to the high symptom burden which is physically debilitating to which the EQ-5D-5L may be more sensitive
The impact of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on health state utility values
Political barriers to evidence-based tobacco control policy
Tasmania led in several areas of tobacco control legislation reform in the period 1997 to 2010. Despite this, Tasmania lagged in other crucial areas, particularly the allocation of resources for community education, mass media campaigns and cessation programmes. Participating in Research
With growing emphasis on the importance of scientific evidence through clinical trials, qualitative studies have been used to deepen our understanding of research from participants' perspectives. For people with a chronic illness, research participation could represent an additional impost on lives already overwhelmed with medical and care issues, and little is known about participants' motivations when the research requires them to think differe…
Microsomal Epoxide Hydrolase Is Not Associated with COPD in a Community-Based Sample
Microsomal epoxide hydrolase (EPHX1) is an important gene because of its role in the metabolism of components of cigarette smoke; thus it may be an important potential modifier of the risk of developing smoking-related lung disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Several studies have investigated EPHX1 and COPD, but some of these studies have potentially been affected by genotyping error. We investigated the influence of si…
Patterns and Predictors of HIV Risk Among Urban American Indians
A preliminary survey of HIV risk and service preferences among American Indians residing in the New York metropolitan area included 68 women and 32 men (M age=35.8 years). Overall, the sample was knowledgeable about the mechanisms of HIV transmission, and 58 percent reported having taken an HIV test. However, of the 63 percent who reported sexual activity in the last six months, 73 percent reported engaging in vaginal or anal sex without a condom…
