    Open Access•Yinuo Zhao, Fangbin Qiao•ARTICLE•The Developing Economies•2026

The residence of hundreds of millions of people in the floating population is an important issue in China's urbanization. Using nationally representative household panel data collected during 2015–2019, this study shows that farmers' off‐farm income positively affects not only their intention to purchase urban homes but also their actual home purchases. However, further analysis shows that most farmers' urban homes are located in their home count…

Fangbin Qiao, Jikun Huang•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2020

In recent years, the sustainability of the economic benefit of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) crops has been subject to substantial debate. Using seven rounds of household survey data, this study shows that the economic benefit continued for 15 years after the commercialisation of Bt cotton in China. Owing to Bt cotton adoption, farmers have saved 8.46 billion US dollars on pesticide use during 1997–2012. This number is more than double if the benef…

Fangbin Qiao, Jikun Huang•ARTICLE•Economic Development and Cultural…•2020•References: 24

Studies have well documented the significant economic benefits of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton; however, little effort has been made to understand the technical efficiency (TE) of Bt cotton adoption and its dynamics in the long run. Thus, this study analyzes both phenomena using seven waves of unique panel data collected in China for 1999–2012.
