  • Pro-Vax, Anti-Vax, or Shades of Gray? Segmenting Consumers Based on Attitudes to Vaccination

Open Access•Davide Rigoni, Timothy Desmet et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education & Behavior•2025

Vaccination hesitancy remains a prominent global health concern, as recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). This quantitative study, conducted on a representative sample of the Belgian population ( n = 1,030), explores consumer segmentation concerning vaccination attitudes during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, identifying five distinct clusters. While 39.6% of the surveyed consumers broadly accepted the COVID-19 vaccine (Convinced Pro-…

  • The Fortress Beneath

    Open Access•Mark E Everett, Timothy Desmet et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Ground-penetrating radar has emerged as a prominent non-destructive evaluation tool for the study of inaccessible subsurface elements of cultural heritage structures. Often of central interest is the desire to image the remains of a pre-existing historic structure that is located directly beneath a more recently built one. The interpretation of GPR images in such cases is usually difficult due to ambiguities caused by the presence of pervasive cl…

  • How important are linguistic factors in word skipping during reading

Open Access•Denis Drieghe, Timothy Desmet et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 42

The probability of skipping a word is influenced by its processing ease. For instance, a word that is predictable from the preceding context is skipped more often than an unpredictable word. A meta-analysis of studies examining this predictability effect reported effect sizes ranging from 0 to 13%, with an average of 8%. One study does not fit within this picture and reported 23% more skipping of Dutch pronouns in sentences in which the pronoun h…

  • Bilingual Language Processing

    Open Access•Timothy Desmet, Wouter Duyck•ARTICLE•Language and Linguistics Compass•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 66

This article provides an overview of the psycholinguistic research concerning the processes and representations that bilinguals use while processing language. We review the lexical, semantic, and syntactic levels of bilingual processing. The main conclusion from this review is that the different languages of bilinguals strongly influence each other during processing. Therefore, we end with a brief overview of some recent research about how biling…

  • Reading relative clauses in English

    Open Access•Edward Gibson, Timothy Desmet et al.•ARTICLE•Cognitive Linguistics•2005•Cited by: 12•References: 3

Two self-paced reading experiments investigated several factors that influence the comprehension complexity of singly-embedded relative clauses (RCs) in English. Three factors were manipulated in Experiment 1, resulting in three main effects. First, object-extracted RCs were read more slowly than subject-extracted RCs, replicating previous work. Second, RCs that were embedded within the sentential complement of a noun were read more slowly than c…
