    In twentieth-century Chile, access to nutritious and affordable food was a central social and labor demand. In a country that suffered from endemic inflation and, by the early 1950s, was importing agricultural products, especially wheat, to feed its growing population, food remained a contentious political and economic issue.     This article explores how the Chilean state identified and categorized working men, women, and children during the Great Depression. Ideas of “employable” and “unemployable” as well as “deserving” and “undeserving” poor influenced how the government distributed relief, organized public-work projects, and eventually dismantled its emergency programs in 1932–34.   • Time trend and age-period-cohort effects on gastric cancer incidence in Zaragoza and Navarre, Spain

    STUDY OBJECTIVE: To describe time trends in gastric cancer incidence in Zaragoza and Navarre, and to investigate time period and birth cohort as determinants of such trends. DESIGN: Cases from two registries were grouped into five year intervals and the following were calculated: age specific and sex specific incidence rates, and the male to female ratio.
