Leveraging Political Ideology and Brand Type
In recent years, brands and companies are renewing their commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in response to changing societal demands. Although previous research has shown that brand-generated content on social media plays a significant role in marketing excellence, what constitutes the “right content” remains unknown, especially regarding the impact of DEI-related content on Twitter. Drawing on the congruence theory, this proje…
Inclusive leadership and employee workplace well-being
Inclusive leadership can improve employees' workplace well-being by stimulating their vigor. Therefore, managers need to be able to effectively meet employees' basic needs to stimulate their vigor. Based on meeting employees' basic needs, managers can also provide targeted developmental feedback to meet employees' growth needs, which can more effectively promote employees' vigor and workplace well-being
Pseudo-events
Using automated content analysis, this research explores the phenomenon of pseudo-events coverage in The New York Times (N = 70,370 articles) from 1980 to 2019. By clarifying the operationalization of pseudo-events, this study introduces pseudo-events as a valuable tool to index how different social subsystems perpetuate mediatization (which is when institutions absorb and abide by media logic). Machine-learning classifiers were constructed to me…
Autonomy at work as a predictor of hardy personality and motivation in sport facilitators
This paper studies the predictive capacity of autonomy at work and the hardy personality of sports professionals on their motivation-effort. The sample is made up of 112 sports facilitators from Extremadura. The OccupationalResilience Questionnaire and the Multidimensional Organisational Climate Scale are used. The results show that the autonomy factor does not correlate equally strongly with the different components of the hardy personality. Thu…
A Two-Step Method for Classifying Political Partisanship Using Deep Learning Models
Political partisanship constitutes a pivotal group identity that significantly influences individuals’ voting behaviors and shapes their ideological and cultural perspectives. While traditional surveys and experimental studies can directly capture political identity by asking the participants, this task has become intricate when employing digital trace data sourced from social media. Previous classification methods, attempting to infer political …

Tweeting and Retweeting
Two studies were conducted to examine gender differences in the discursive political engagement on Twitter. Study 1 analysed about 5.6 million English tweets regarding nine political issues and one non-political issue. It found that, compared with men’s tweets, a higher proportion of women’s tweets are retweets, and that the majority of women’s retweets originate from men. The results may indicate that women have arelatively lower level of politi…
Politics Go “Viral”
The U.S. confronts an unprecedented public health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, in the presidential election year in 2020. In such a compound situation, a real-time dynamic examination of how the general public ascribe the crisis responsibilities taking account to their political ideologies is helpful for developing effective strategies to manage the crisis and diminish hostility toward particular groups caused by polarization. Social media, suc…

Gendered Tweets
Politics is an area that is traditionally believed to be gender divided. According to intergroup communication theory, this gender-salient context might cause differences in political communications between genders. Moreover, the internet and social media, which creates a computer-mediated interactive context, might also impact the traditional gender discrepancies in political discourse. This study used Twitter trace-data and computational text a…
Is masculinity 'deteriorating' in China? Changes of masculinity representation in Chinese film posters from 1951 to 2016
This study attempts to briefly map the general changes of Chinese masculinities in media over time, and explain why these changes happened. Through visual content analysis, 471 film posters collected from 1951 to 2016 are examined and findings summarised as follows: 1) men are decreasingly depicted as manual workers or soldiers, and increasingly white-collar and urbane; 2) men are decreasingly delineated as aggressive or puissant, and increasingl…
Trajectory of Declines in Physical Activity in Community-Dwelling Older Women
Studies examining physical activity behavior suggest that activity levels decline with age. Such declines are particularly problematic among older adults in light of the research suggesting a protective effect of physical activity on numerous physical health outcomes associated with independent living. Despite a growing recognition of the importance of a physically active lifestyle, little is known about the role of demographic and psychosocial v…
Physical Activity, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Esteem
We examined the structure of the expanded version of the Exercise and Self-Esteem Model in a sample of older adults (N = 174; age, M = 66.7 years) across a 4-year period. A panel analysis revealed support for the indirect effects of physical activity (PA) and self-efficacy (SE) on physical self-worth and global esteem through subdomain levels of esteem. These relationships were consistent across the 4-year period. Over time, older adults reportin…
