Exploring the Clinical Utility of the Generalized Pliance and Tracking Questionnaires for Children among Justice-Involved Youth
Empirical investigations of pliance and tracking, two functional classes of rule-governed behavior, are limited. This clinical report examined the temporal stability and prospective clincial utility of the Generalized Pliance Questionnaire–Children (GPQ-C; Salazar et al., 2018) and the Generalized Tracking Questionnaire–Children (GTQ-C; Pereira et al., 2020) in a sample of adolescent males residing in a juvenile residential treatment facility. Fo…
Effects of rules on schedule performance with synchronous schedules of reinforcement
Two recent studies provided participants with their preferred music on synchronous schedules for increasing and decreasing their walking speed on a treadmill. Both studies demonstrated schedule control with most of their participants; however, the researchers speculated that presession rules may have contributed to this control. The purpose of this study was to examine how rules influenced schedule control of walking speed with the treadmill prep…
Using high‐preference and low‐preference music in a synchronous reinforcement treadmill preparation: A further extension
We conducted a series of studies on the effects of synchronous reinforcement. Study 1 presented 30 participants with their high‐preference (HP) music, identified via a conjugate assessment, for walking on a treadmill during three synchronous reinforcement (SYNC) components. The results indicated that HP music produced schedule control of walking speed for 20 participants (66.7%). In addition, 80% of the participants who displayed schedule control…

Bookish’ Borrowings and Novelty in a Chinese-Christian Manuscript from Dunhuang
The trade routes of late antique and early medieval Eurasia conducted far more than goods. Exchanges occurred between a number of prominent book cultures with origins or, at least, ties to the Indian, Iranian and Chinese worlds. A Christian scroll (Pelliot chinois 3847) discovered in the famed Library Cave near Dunhuang is the product of such interactions in both its materiality and its written content. This Chinese manuscript of East Syriac Chri…
Increasing novel toy play actions in children with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can often demonstrate restricted and repetitive patterns of free play with toys, limiting their contact with the social and tangible reinforcement that is the result of more varied play. Lag schedules of reinforcement have been shown to increase novelty and variability of play actions in children with intellectual disability (ID; Baruni, R. R., Rapp, J. T., Lipe, S. L., & Novotny, M. A. (2014). Using l…
Reclaiming Control” Patient Acceptance and Adherence to HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Following Sexual Assault
Sexual assault is an irrefutable trauma; an insult to the autonomy of the person forced into sexual acts. Sexual assault sequelae range from physical injury and acute traumatic stress, to pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (HIV PEP) following sexual assault may decrease the likelihood of HIV transmission. Many patients seeking healthcare post-sexual assault ei…
Assessing the Internalized Homophobia Scale for Gender Invariance
The original and revised versions of the Internalized Homophobia Scale (IHP) were examined for gender invariance. The revised version was found to have a better fit, and passed the test of configural, metric, and scalar invariance. The revised version is recommended as a brief measure of internalized heterosexism
Acute Injury Patterns of Intimate Partner Violence Victims
Although millions of women receive injuries from intimate partner violence (IPV) each year in the United States alone, there has been only limited research of acute injury patterns and the types, locations, and mechanisms of IPV injuries. The mechanism of being punched to the face with a fist resulting in blunt trauma—related injuries is most commonly reported. Strangulation, especially manual strangulation, is a frequently cited mechanism of inj…
Estimating Hospital Charges Associated With Intimate Violence
The cost of treating intimate violence can be estimated by using data collected by hospital-based programs that identify and document such violence. This article examines previous methods applied to estimate hospital charges associated with violence as well as our own experience using data collected by a hospital-based violence prevention program in Chicago, Illinois. Five basic steps for estimating hospital charges associated with treating intim…
