  • Quality of life, care needs and priorities in atrial fibrillation: The impact of number and patterns of comorbidities

Open Access•Caterina Trevisan, Adele Ravelli et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2026

Both number and combinations of AF comorbidities shape patients' and caregivers' experiences. Considering comorbidity profiles can help define targeted care plans and caregiver support initiatives

  • Multimorbidity: The case for prevention

Open Access•Anna Head, Kate Fleming et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 16

Multimorbidity is of increasing concern for healthcare systems globally, particularly in the context of ageing population structures, such as in the European Union and the UK. Although there is growing attention on developing strategies to manage the health and healthcare burden of older patients with multimorbidity, little research or policy focus has been placed on how to best prevent the development of multimorbidity in future generations. • Identifying how Covid-19-related misinformation reacts to the announcement of the UK national lockdown: An interrupted time-series study

    Open Access•Mark Green, Elena Musi et al.•ARTICLE•Big Data & Society•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 28

COVID-19 is unique in that it is the first global pandemic occurring amidst a crowded information environment that has facilitated the proliferation of misinformation on social media. Dangerous misleading narratives have the potential to disrupt 'official' information sharing at major government announcements. Using an interrupted time-series design, we test the impact of the announcement of the first UK lockdown (8-8.30 p.m. 23 March 2020) on sh…

  • Quantifying the impact of the Public Health Responsibility Deal on salt intake, cardiovascular disease and gastric cancer burdens: Interrupted time series and microsimulation study

    Open Access•Anthony A Laverty, Chris Kypridemos et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 20

BACKGROUND: In 2011, England introduced the Public Health Responsibility Deal (RD), a public-private partnership (PPP) which gave greater freedom to the food industry to set and monitor targets for salt intakes. We estimated the impact of the RD on trends in salt intake and associated changes in cardiovascular disease (CVD) and gastric cancer (GCa) incidence, mortality and economic costs in England from 2011-2025. METHODS: microsimulation model t…

  • Socioeconomic Inequalities in Dietary Sodium Intake: Upstream Versus Downstream Interventions

Simon Capewell, Chris Kypridemos•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2017•References: 5

  • The effects of maximising the UK’s tobacco control score on inequalities in smoking prevalence and premature coronary heart disease mortality: A modelling study

Open Access•Kirk Allen, Chris Kypridemos et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Further, feasible improvements in tobacco control policy could substantially improve population health, and reduce health-related inequalities in England

  • Fruit and vegetable consumption and non-communicable disease: Time to update the ‘5 a day’ message

    Chris Kypridemos, Martin O’flaherty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 7

ATP-dependent K + channels are composed of pore-forming subunits of the Kir6. x family and of sulfonylurea receptors (SURs). SUR1, expressed in pancreatic β-cells, has a higher affinity for sulfonylureas, such as glibenclamide, than SUR2B, expressed in smooth muscle. This difference is mainly caused by serine 1237 in SUR1 corresponding to tyrosine 1206 in SUR2B. To increase the affinity of SUR2B for glibenclamide, the mutant SUR2B(Y1206S) was con…
