  • Place-based embodied pedagogies

    Open Access•Ioana Radu•ARTICLE•Teaching and Learning Anthropology•2024

This article employs Indigenous urbanism as an analytical approach, as developed by Anishinaabe and settler scholar Heather Dorries (2023), to show how pedagogical interventions employed in the teaching of an undergraduate course at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) contributed to an enhanced theorization of the city. It discusses the ways in which pedagogical activities shaped the students’ understanding of historiography, Indigenous urban…

  • Anicinabe Aki—Invisible No More

Ioana Radu, Nancy Wiscutie-Crépeau•ARTICLE•Urban History Review•2023

This article explores the Indigenous historiography of the town of Senneterre and the Abitibi region in Quebec. As the centre of ancestral and contemporary social and spatial organization of three Indigenous nations—Anicinabe, Iiyiuu/Iinuu (Cree), and Atikamekw Nehirowisiw—the specificity of Senneterre allows for a more nuanced analysis that centres Indigenous epistemological traditions of kinship, responsibility, and care. We thus focus on the w…

  • Uncertainty, manageability and individuation

Open Access•Raphaël Hammer, Solène Gouilher et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Qualitative Research in…•2022

Alcohol use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is associated with diverse risks to infant health. As there is no known safe threshold of alcohol consumption, official guidelines advocate a precautionary approach and advise pregnant and breastfeeding women to abstain. Sociological research has shown that women's occasional drinking during pregnancy involves complex responses to risk messages and health recommendations. However, research on women's…

L'article montre ain…

  • Blurred Boundaries, Feminisms, and Indigenisms

    Open Access•Ioana Radu•ARTICLE•The Oral History Review•2018•Cited by: 2

This article is about Indigenous oral histories and Indigenous feminisms as understood by a settler. It builds from critiques that urge gender and women’s studies to break out of the focus on parity and consider intersecting issues of settler colonialism and the decolonizing work necessary for achieving autonomy locally. I draw from my research collaboration with the Cree Nation of Chisasibi that traces the community’s process of developing a cul…
