  • Ofsted inspection reports in early childhood education settings narrowly focussed

Open Access•Arif Mahmud, Peter Kemp et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Early Childhood Research•2025•References: 2

High-quality early childhood education is key for children’s positive and long-term outcomes. Countries differ on how they quality assure provision. In England, Ofsted is the independent inspection body, often the source of controversy for lack of transparency in ratings. However, there is a dearth of evidence on how inspectors’ judgements are made, particularly in the early years sector. This study examines the consistency and nature of individu…

  • The idea of university in a cosmopolitan perspective

    Open Access•Peter Kemp•ARTICLE•Ethics & Global Politics•2012•Cited by: 1

The aim of this paper is to show why the humanities are more necessary than ever as part of the university education in our contemporary cosmopolitan age. We need the humanities if our educational institutions are to overcome the threats from narrow-minded politicians and business people to reduce education in schools and universities to simple instruction in management without guidance from the cultures of the world as expressed in art and liter…

  • Rethinking Philosophy

    Open Access•Peter Kemp•ARTICLE•Diogenes•2009

The author discusses the limits, the power and the dangers of speech, seen as the essential mode of all philosophical 'acts'. The place of speech in the public sphere is mentioned in relation to the politico-religious debates that have taken place in Denmark in the last few years. The paper returns to and develops the inaugural speech at the World Philosophy Conference in Seoul, South Korea, in July 2008

  • Cash and carePolicy challenges in the welfare state

'Cash and Care' gathers reflective overview pieces and findings from new empirical research by a group of distinguished international experts. • Mimesis in Educational Hermeneutics

    Peter Kemp•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2006•Cited by: 4

Philosophy of education is regarded as an art of hermeneutics that integrates a theory of mimesis in its understanding of the educational transmission. The idea of the master is reconsidered in this perspective in order to overcome the old opposition between classicism and romanticism. In that way the author attempts to respond to the question: What is the secret to pedagogically sound education

The results indicate that, though Housing Benefit makes a relatively small impact overall, it has a significant role in reducing income inequality among renters

    Open Access•Peter Kemp, Peter A Kemp•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Administration•1990•Cited by: 3•References: 7

This paper looks at the deregulation of private sector rents. It examines two recent articles on this topic published in Social Policy and Administration , which take very different positions on the need for and desirability of rent deregulation, one very pro‐market the other very anti‐market in outlook. It is argued here that both articles hold idealized views of ‘the market’, though for different reasons, and that a less partisan view of the ar…

    Open Access•Peter Kemp, Peter A Kemp•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Administration•1987•Cited by: 5•References: 2

The housing benefit scheme has been the subject of considerable change and reform. This article looks at the system of income‐related assistance with housing costs that existed prior to the introduction of housing benefit, and examines the reasons for the introduction of the scheme in 1982/83. It then goes on to examine why the Housing Benefit Review was set up less than one year after the “full start” to the scheme. Finally, the new housing bene…

  • Co-operative Ownership of Former Council Housing

David Clapham, Peter Kemp et al.•ARTICLE•Policy & Politics•1987•Cited by: 2

A new consensus seems to be emerging that many of the problems of council housing in Britain can be overcome by devolving the management and sometimes the ownership of the housing to co-operatives. In this article an assessment is made of the evidence for this view and a pioneering example of the establishment of co-operatives in former council housing in Glasgow is described. It is concluded that the success of such schemes will depend on their …

  • Fortælling og kritik i teologien

    Open Access•Peter Kemp•ARTICLE•Religionsvidenskabeligt Tidsskrift•1982

In his official speech at the defence of Svend Bjerg’s theological dissertation “Den Kristne Grundfortælling” (The Fundamental Christian Story), Peter Kemp agrees to the idea of a narrative theology, but he argues that this theology should not – as Bjerg does – try to escape modern criticism of ideologies, illusions and perversities in story telling, because theological reply to criticism of religion or Christianity has no effect on the modern ma…
