  • Play attitude and moods of play: A Design-Based Inquiry Into the Affective Nature and Importance of Play

    Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•International Journal of Play•2022•References: 28

The purpose of this article is to clarify the relationship between the affective nature of play and the importance of play for being and becoming human. The inquiry focuses on the relationship between the affective processes of play, creativity and the formation of character, also referred to as Bildung. An intervention study is presented that explores this relation by applying a design-based research approach. The intervention took place in a Da…

  • The Affective Base of Judgement in Creativity and Innovation and its Implications for Education

    Open Access•Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Journal of Philosophy of Education•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 3

The purpose of this article is to carry out a philosophical enquiry into the affective nature of creative and innovative processes. Recent studies on future employment suggest that we are at an inflection point whereby any job is in principle at risk of being taken over by computers and robots in the near future. The jobs least at risk, it is suggested, are those that require creativity and innovation. It is still unclear why this is the case, an…

  • The discourse and nature of creativity and innovation: Ways of relating to the novel

    Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 6

In the discourse of the knowledge-based economy, the link between creativity and innovation is usually taken for granted. However, not only is this link of recent date, it joins together two diametrically opposed concepts: the economic concept of innovation and the humanistic concept of creativity. In research too, there is a lack of enquiry into the nature of the processes of creativity and innovation and into how these processes are similar yet…

  • Diagnosis of the times vs description of society

    Open Access•Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Current Sociology•2015•Cited by: 6•References: 5

The main purpose of this article is to contribute to the methodological reflection on diagnosis of the times. Such reflection is generally lacking and the main reason is that diagnosis of the times is often confused with description of society, the article argues. Building on social-analytical diagnostics the hypothesis of the article is that diagnosis of the times and description of society are two diametrically opposed kinds of analytical strat…

  • Creativity as a Question of Bildung: Creativity as a Question of Bildung

    Open Access•Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Journal of Philosophy of Education•2009•Cited by: 5•References: 6

The aim of the article is to contribute to the conceptualization of creativity in education. The article makes use of the self-Bildung perspective, which is an up-to-date version of the Neo-humanistic notion of the formation of the personality in order to interpret the original notion of the ‘four stages’ of the creative process. The conclusion is that in this perspective creativity can be understood as a state of transcendence and a practice of …

  • Samtidsdiagnose som kritik

    Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2008

Artiklens centrale tese er, at samtidsdiagnose er en form for kritik. Indledningsvist spores samtidsdiagnosens herkomst tilbage til 1700-tallets filosofi (Rousseau, Kant), hvorefter aktuelle bud på filosofiske samtidsdiagnoser præsenteres (Lyotard, Schmidt). Imidlertid synes det at have store implikationer for samtidsdiagnosens kritiske natur, at samtidsdiagnose ofte forveksles med samfundsbeskrivelse (f.eks. Beck), eller at forskere forsøger at …

  • The Social Pathologies of Self‐Realization: A diagnosis of the consequences of the shift in individualization

    Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2007•Cited by: 6•References: 3

The aim of this article is to inquire into today's social pathologies, i.e. the negative consequences of the developmental processes of society. In a dialogue with Axel Honneth, the article asserts that a shift has occurred in individualization, a shift that implies a fundamental change in social pathologies: Social pathologies no longer derive from social barriers inhibiting self‐realization but from self‐realization itself. As a consequence, ph…

  • Selvdannelse og nye former for socialitet - technofesten som eksempel

    Lars Geer Hammershøj•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2006

Self Bildung and new forms of sociality: the technorave as example One of the most significant traits of late modernity is increasing individualization. This article deals with the question of what this radical individualization does to forms of sociality by analyzing individualization as self Bildung or formation of the self. The concept of Bildung is interesting in this regard, since the central conception is that personality and sociality are …
