  • Reading comprehension of children acquiring a transparent language as L2: A study with the simple view of reading model

Open Access•Chiara Valeria Marinelli, Marika Iaia et al.•ARTICLE•Bilingualism Language and Cognition•2026

Based on the simple view of reading (SVR), we investigated factors associated with reading comprehension in Second Language (L2) minority children learning a highly consistent orthography through a network analysis. Bilingual and monolingual children participated in the research. Consistent with prior findings, reading speed supported reading comprehension for L1 learners, whereas, for L2 learners, correct decoding carried greater weight than rea…

  • Maria Montessori’s Educational Approach to Intellectual Disability and Autism: A Systematic Review of Quantitative Research

Open Access•Francesco Domenico Di Blasi, Angela Antonia Costanzo et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2025

The Montessori method was originally developed from an examination of children with cognitive disabilities. Numerous studies have explored the application of Montessori principles with typically developing children and adolescents across different educational settings. However, despite its original interest in children with cognitive disabilities, there has been a limited number of systematic reviews specifically addressing its impact on these ch…

  • Letter and Word Processing in Developmental Dyslexia: Evidence from a Two-Alternative Forced Choice Task

Open Access•Daniela Traficante, Pierluigi Zoccolotti et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2025

The present data indicate that children with dyslexia suffer from an early deficit in making perceptual operations that require the conjunction analysis of a set of letters. Still, this deficit is not due to an inability to scan the letter string. The deficit is confined to orthographic stimuli and does not extend to other types of visual targets

  • Academic Skills in Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disability: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Open Access•Francesco Domenico Di Blasi, Angela Antonia Costanzo et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2023

Background: A substantial proportion of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) also have an intellectual disability (ID). However, the academic achievement levels of students with ASD and ID (ASD-ID) are poorly documented and known. Method: We systematically reviewed studies on school skills (reading, spelling, and math) in children and adolescents with ASD-ID. The search was conducted in seven bibliographic databases: Embase, Pubmed/MEDLIN…

  • Characterization of reading errors in languages with different orthographic regularity: An Italian-English comparison

Open Access•Chiara Valeria Marinelli, Cristina Romani et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Cognitive…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 25

The study examined whether a classification of errors based on Hendriks and Kolk's (1997) proposal would effectively characterize the reading profile of children learning two orthographies varying for regularity, such as Italian and English. The study considered both an age-match and a grade-match comparison. Offline analysis of error production was carried out for two lists of stimuli: List 1 including regular words varying for frequency and mat…

  • Return to Work and Quality of Life after Stroke in Italy: A Study on the Efficacy of Technologically Assisted Neurorehabilitation

Open Access•Sheida Ghanbari Ghooshchy, Sheyda Ghanbari Ghoshchi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Cerebrovascular diseases, including stroke, are historically considered diseases of old adults so only in a few studies has "return to work" (RTW) been considered as an index of rehabilitative outcome. At the moment, data on RTW in patients with stroke are highly variable: four different reviews reported the following ranges: 11-85%, 19-73%, 22-53%, and 40-45%. The absence of re-integration to work after a stroke is shown to be associated with an…

  • The combined effect of gaze direction and facial expression on cueing spatial attention

Anna Pecchinenda, Manuela Pes et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2008

Empirical evidence shows an effect of gaze direction on cueing spatial attention, regardless of the emotional expression shown by a face, whereas a combined effect of gaze direction and facial expression has been observed on individuals' evaluative judgments. In 2 experiments, the authors investigated whether gaze direction and facial expression affect spatial attention depending upon the presence of an evaluative goal. Disgusted, fearful, happy,…
