The impact of differences in collaborators' encoding levels on collaborative retrieval: An fNirs hyperscanning study
Association Between Interpersonal Relationships and Academic Achievement: A Multilevel Meta-Analysis
Beyond passive exposure: Active engagement and green behavior amplify urban wellbeing
Environmental conditions are increasingly recognized as important determinants of population health and wellbeing. However, the mechanisms linking environmental experiences to wellbeing remain insufficiently understood. Prior research rarely distinguishes between active environmental engagement and subjective environmental appraisal. It also typically examines these pathways in isolation. This study addresses this gap by using a pathway-specific …

Design/methodology/approach A 2 (conflict management style: cooperative, competitive)…
Effect of collaborative strategies on retrieval: The evidence from different task materials
Collaborative memory refers to a process where two or more members encode information individually but collaborate during retrieval. While the collaborative process itself is widely studied in retrieval research, communication strategies - specifically, how collaboration is strategically conducted - have received little attention. Through three experiments, this study investigates the influence of the "free collaboration", "supporting others" and…
Urbanization shapes ecological networks and energy flows in depth-stratified wetland soil micro-food web
Urbanization greatly shapes wetland environment and affects its ecosystem functions. Soil micro-food web, through energy flows, plays a vital role in regulating wetland ecosystem processes and functions. However, little is known about how urbanization affects the composition and energetic structure of soil micro-food webs across different soil depths in wetlands. This knowledge gap limits our understanding of ecological processes throughout the s…
The Dynamics of Person–Person and Person–Place Connections Through Visiting Friends and Relatives ( VFR )
Visiting friends and relatives (VFR) provides a context in which person–person and person–place interactions occur. This study extends place attachment theory to the VFR context by examining how rapport influences place attachment and behavioral intentions through well‐being and place satisfaction. An empirical study was conducted using a sample of 470 guests who visited South Korea using PLS‐SEM. The results indicate that rapport significantly e…
The Tetris effect: Time regimes, returnee scholars and the unspoken language policies of Chinese higher education
Drawing on in-depth interviews with returnee scholars, this study explores how the implicit language policies driving the internationalisation of Chinese higher education produce distinct and often dissonant time regimes. While prevailing scholarship on language policy has rarely engaged with temporality, this paper argues that time is a crucial, underexamined dimension of how policies are experienced and negotiated. Participants describe a shift…
The impact of disparities in collaborators’ encoding levels on collaborative memory
Utilising a two-character Chinese compound words list as task material, this study examines the effects of three combinations of deep and shallow encoding levels (operationalised via semantic and perceptual tasks, respectively) of two members within the same collaborative group on collaborative retrieval and subsequent individual memory. During the encoding phase, both the collaborative group and the nominal group conducted independent semantic o…
The Concise Routledge Encyclopaedia of New Concepts for Interculturality
This groundbreaking encyclopaedia presents 74 innovative concepts selected and elaborated by multilingual scholars, enriching critical discussions of the notion of interculturality in global scholarship. Many scholars are currently attempting to un-re-think and decolonize interculturality in different fields of research. Although ideas are critiqued and revised, this is happening in very similar linguistic terms as before. These potential attempt…
Is prior bullying victimization associated with subsequent bullying perpetration? A theoretical framework based on the Threat‐Motivation model
INTRODUCTION: Bullying among adolescents is a global public health issue prevalent in schools, posing significant risks to positive adolescent development. Studies have shown that bullied adolescents tend to engage in more bullying perpetration, but this underlying process of longitudinal correlation has not been fully elucidated. METHODS: = 1.46, 59.27% boys) at 1-year intervals, two moderated chain-mediation models were used to explore the long…
The joint role of childhood emotional abuse and bullying victimization in the development of adolescent depressive symptoms: Sequential mediation or enhanced moderation
Divergent patterns and determinants of resistance and resilience in short and tall forests across global drylands
Forests play a crucial role in mitigating climate change, and global afforestation initiatives are in full swing, with drylands having great potential for afforestation. However, many dryland afforestation projects lead to short forests with significantly lower canopy height than their typical height. Meanwhile, the potentially increasing probability of drought threatens short forests and their tall counterparts. Yet, it remains largely unclear w…

Using the New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) as the theoretical lens, this study evaluates whether Gen Z is similar or different to three other generations (Gen X, Y and Baby Boomers) on their environmental attitudes toward travel. The sustainability practices that these gene…
Monsoon-regulated marine carbon reservoir effect in the northern South China Sea
The ubiquitous marine radiocarbon reservoir effect (MRE) constrains the construction of reliable chronologies for marine sediments and the further comparison of paleoclimate records. Different reference values were suggested from various archives. However, it remains unclear how climate and MREs interact. Here we studied two pre-bomb corals from the Hainan Island and Xisha Island in the northern South China Sea (SCS), to examine the relationship …
A Web Knowledge-Driven Multimodal Retrieval Method in Computational Social Systems: Unsupervised and Robust Graph Convolutional Hashing
Multimodal retrieval has received widespread consideration since it can commendably provide massive related data support for the development of computational social systems (CSSs). However, the existing works still face the following challenges: 1) rely on the tedious manual marking process when extended to CSS, which not only introduces subjective errors but also consumes abundant time and labor costs; 2) only using strongly aligned data for tra…

Varve counting and radiometric dating provided a precise annual-resolution sediment chronology f…
C Geochronology and Radiocarbon Reservoir Effect of Reviewed Lakes Study in China
Lacustrine sediments are important archives for paleoclimate research, but there are evident carbon reservoir effects. Radiocarbon ( 14 C) ages of lake sediments must be corrected for these effects before applying them to paleoclimate research. The authors review the lacustrine research from the last 20 years from different climatic regions in China, and systematically investigate the 14 C age and correction methods used in the studies of 81 lake…
National tourism organizations and climate change
There is a consensus that the global tourism system needs to undergo decarbonization and achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century. However, given the anticipated growth in the most energy-intensive subsector of tourism, air transport, achieving this goal seems unlikely. This paper focuses on the role of distance in the global geography of tourism, against evidence that National Marketing Organizations (NTOs) often seek to attract visitors from a…
Chinese Minzu Education in Higher Education: An Inspiration for ‘Western’ Diversity Education
Calls for complementing, modifying and ‘decolonising’ the conceptualisation and implementation of Diversity Education (e.g. multicultural, intercultural, and/or social justice education) are currently being heard in the ‘West’. This paper explores some of the characteristics and benefits of Chinese Minzu Education as a potential addition to the field. Our starting point is that Chinese education is often misrepresented and that knowledge about di…
The Genesis of the Concept of Blind Fate in Ancient China
A large number of modern Chinese scholars tend to speak of the belief in fixed fate in negative terms. They often claim that such a belief devalues the existence of man by attributing the decision of his fate solely to a supernatural, irrational power. Therefore, they conclude, it is a superstitious belief predominant in primitive societies and traceable to the Shang period in China as suggested by some early sources.1

The Concept of Fate in Mencius
The concept of fate in Mencius is by no means a new theme in the study of ancient Chinese philosophy, for it has been addressed by a host of scholars. Nevertheless, to a great extent, this subject is still wrapped in obscurity. Particularly on the question of whether Mencius upheld the doctrine of unalterable and unpredictable fate we have hardly been given a conclusive and persuasive answer. Since the concept of fate constitutes an important par…

Preliminary Investigation on the Rapid and Direct AMS Measurement of 129 I in Environmental Samples without Chemical Separation
Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) is the most sensitive method for measuring 129 I in environmental samples available today, with a detection limit of about 10 –15 for 129 I/ 127 I. A drawback of the technique is the time-consuming chemical separation required to prepare AMS targets from raw samples. This step significantly limits applications requiring rapid analyses and large numbers of samples, for example, in monitoring studies associated w…
