  • A braided chronology to elucidate temporalities of a mine on New Guinea

    Open Access•Jhon Urasti Blesia, K Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•The Extractive Industries and…•2023•References: 31

The concept of mining temporalities is applied to a mining district on New Guinea. Data to inform the temporalities and configure them into a chronology were gathered in the district and its environs. These data were supplemented with secondary sources, mostly involving similar fieldwork in this location, and corporate and governmental sources. The district has an indigenous population comprising two peoples who traditionally lived distinctly on …

  • The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on UK medical education. A nationwide student survey

Nicholas Pari Tekkis, Damir Rafi et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Teacher•2022

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the delivery of medical education across the UK, with the majority of face-to-face teaching cancelled during the first wave, and medical schools consequently making varied adaptations to education delivery. To identify and share effective adaptations, we conducted a cross-sectional, online survey (COVID Med-Ed) between 20th May and 31st August 2020 which divided undergraduate teaching by GMC “Outc…

  • A (Personal) French View of the Referendum Debate

    Open Access•K Dixon•ARTICLE•Scottish Affairs•2014•References: 1

Historically, there has been a lack of a clear French vision of the multinational nature of the United Kingdom. A gradual shift towards a clearer understanding has been demonstrated by a well-informed and even-handed presentation of the referendum debate in the French media. This article examines the presentation of that debate, as well as Scotland's increasing familiarity in France's cultural imagination. In politics there has been neither much …

    Open Access•K Dixon, Keith R Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 28

In this article we propose to go beyond the dichotomy of virtual vs collocated teams to look instead at virtuality in teams. In so doing, we argue that technology-mediated interactions do not substitute but rather complement face-to-face interactions. We adopt a definition of virtuality in teams based on discontinuities and pursue an understanding of their dynamics in an in-depth case study of an inter-organizational virtual centre of excellence.T…

  • Sociological Theory: Pretence and Possibility

    Morris Janowitz, K Dixon•ARTICLE•Contemporary Sociology A Journal…•1975

Most professional sociologists claim that sociology is, or ought to be, a theoretical science. Keith Dixon argues here that this claim is formulated in such a way that a proper evaluation of its status is extremely difficult, and that the contingent objections to the possibility of sociological theorizing are sufficiently strong for such activity to be labelled as pretence. He believes that pretence to the theoretical is a hindrance to the develo…

  • A Petroglyph-Decorated Metate from the Bradshaw Mountains, Arizona

    K Dixon, Keith A Dixon•ARTICLE•KIVA•1965

An unusual basin metate with a petroglyph on the bottom side was found in the Bradshaw Mountains, Arizona. The metate was lying on the surface in the area of a site, but no distinctive pottery or other artifacts were noted. The design and its relation to the grinding surface form an interesting problem
