  • Understanding a “New” Human-Companion Animal Bond: The Mechanism of Interactions between Cats and Young People

Yihan Wu, Shengjin Xie et al.•ARTICLE•Society and Animals•2026

By exploring the role and mechanism by which cats affect the psychological wellbeing of young people living alone, the study aims to deepen the understanding of a human-companion animal interaction. Using a constructivist grounded theory approach, 16 semi-structured interviews with eight Chinese young people were conducted, and subsequently a theoretical model was constructed. The study found that young people living alone in urban areas in China…

  • Neighborhood-level socioeconomic disadvantage is associated with gut microbial composition and diversity across many chronic disease states

    Open Access•Josiah E Radder, K Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background Socioeconomic disparities play a major role in health and disease. Growing evidence suggests that healthcare access accounts for only part of these outcomes, and additional biological mechanisms remain to be elucidated. The gut microbiome is a central component of health and disease and can be affected by environmental factors and socioeconomic disparities. Methods Using a large cohort with diverse comorbidities identified in the Elixh…

  • Low-dose-rate induces more severe cognitive impairment than high-dose-rate in rats exposed to chronic low-dose γ-radiation

Open Access•Tianbao Ma, K Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background: Owing to the long penetration depth of gamma (γ)-rays, individuals working in ionizing radiation environments are chronically exposed to low-dose γ-radiation, resulting in cognitive changes. Dose rate significantly affects radiation-induced biological effects; however, its role in chronic low-dose γ-irradiation-induced cognitive impairment remains unclear. We aimed to investigate whether chronic low-dose γ-irradiation at low-dose-rate…

  • Parental Reactions to Children’s Negative Emotions in France and the United States: Links to Preschoolers’ Socioemotional Outcomes

    Open Access•K Li, Candida Höfer et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2024•References: 7

Parental reactions to children’s negative emotions (PRCNEs), a type of emotion socialization, has been theorized to shape children’s socioemotional development. Few studies have examined cultural variations in PRCNE among Western/Minority World cultures. The present study used a cross-cultural, preschool-based sample of 101 parent–child dyads (child age = 36–79 months, 42% females; parent age = 19–58 years, 89% mothers) from two countries: U.S. (…

  • A polycultural theory of wisdom based on Habermas’s worldview

    Open Access•K Li, Fengyan Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Culture & Psychology•2020

Building on Habermas’s worldview, this paper attempts to construct a theory of wisdom that integrates the advantages of Eastern and Western cultures. To this end, we review previous definitions of wisdom and their problems and analyze the importance of worldview for wisdom. A worldview provided by the German philosopher Jürgen Habermas is eminently persuasive. We argue that Habermas’s worldview provides a more suitable basis for a polycultural th…

  • Public injecting among a cohort of injecting drug users in Vancouver, Canada

Kora Debeck, Will Small et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2009•Cited by: 4•References: 34

BACKGROUND: Despite the implementation of policy interventions to address open drug consumption, public injecting continues to occur in many urban settings. This study sought to examine public injecting among a community-recruited cohort of injecting drug users (IDUs) in Vancouver.
