Mental Health Among Spanish Doctoral Students
Background: Mental health issues among PhD students are rising, a trend believed to be driven by academic and social challenges. Method: A total of 1265 doctorate students from a large university in Barcelona, Spain (739 women; 414 men; 112 marked other options), with a mean age of 32.36 years (SD = 8.20, range: 23–67), were evaluated by means of standardized instruments. Results: Totals of 40.6% and 46.5% of the sample exceeded the cut-off point…
The mediating role of physical activity, morning wake-up time, and sleep-inducing medication use in the relationship between age and depression
We found evidence for a mediational effect of age on depression, as the biopsychosocial model of mental illness implies. The findings of this study can add to the existing body of knowledge on depression management and help clarify the mechanisms of the effect of age on depression
The Salsa Questionnaire
A transition towards sustainable and healthy diet(SHD) is crucial for both population and planetary health. However, changing consumer’s behaviour is challenging due to the many factors influencing food choices. Tools that comprehensively assess these factors are paramount, yet none are available in Spain. Hence, we created and validated the SALSA questionnaire to capture self-perceived barriers and facilitators for SHD. The process involved thre…
Vulnerability Scale for Families
Purpose: This study develops a Social Vulnerability Scale for Families (SVSF) in social assistance in Spain. Method: First, a systematic literature review and content validation were performed by experts in the field. The first version of the scale included risk and protective factors in the areas of economic situation, housing, health, intrafamilial relationships, sociocultural capital, and educational situation. Secondly, a first pre-pilot test…
A Cosmin-based meta-analysis on the Psychometric Properties of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale for Children and Adolescents
Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (1965) is the most widely used measure of self-esteem for research purposes, especially when targeting children and young people. In this study, we synthesized the findings and assessed the quality of 39 studies that reported the psychometric properties of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale in participants under 21 years old using the COSMIN methodology. Most studies were found to be doubtful in terms of content or criter…
Mentoring and Research Self-Efficacy of Doctoral Students
Effective mentoring is an integral component of the doctoral dissertation process. This study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of two questionnaires developed to assess research self-efficacy and the mentoring/supervision process. The sample comprised 1265 doctorate students (mean age = 32.36 years; standard deviation = 8.20). Items in both questionnaires had adequate discrimination indexes and principal component analysis supported…
Confirmatory factor analysis with missing data in a small sample
The presence of missing data and small sample sizes are very common in social and health sciences. Concurrently to present a methodology to solve the small sample size and missing data, we aim to present a definition of Cognitive Reserve for people with Down Syndrome. This population has become an appealing focus to study this concept because of the high incidence of dementia. The accidental sample comprised 35 persons with DS (16–35 years). A to…
Relationship between Quality of Life and the Complexity of Default Mode Network in Resting State Functional Magnetic Resonance Image in Down Syndrome
The results are interpreted as evidence that, even at rest, connectivity levels are detected as already shown in the community population and that less intense connectivity levels correlate with higher levels of Quality of Life in people with Down syndrome
