  • The effects of otitis media on the attention skills of day-care-attending toddlers

Lynne Feagans, Lynne V Feagans et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1994•Cited by: 5

The purpose of this study was to try to understand whether otitis media (OM) affected toddlers' attention to language. The children in the sample were seen in their day care at 12 or 18 months of age in a book-reading task when they had OM and when they were well. Children's hearing was evaluated and they were given the Sequenced Inventory of Communication Development at 24 months of age. Over half of the sample could be classified as having chro…

  • Maternal attributions to a handicapped and a non-handicapped twin

Open Access•Lynne Feagans, Julie Ann Robinson et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•1988

This study was designed to explore a mother's attributions toward her twins from 11 to 32 months. One twin was developing normally while the other was extremely handicapped. Results suggest that the mother fine-tuned her attributions in response to the children's developmental level of communicative development but not in other areas. Several hypotheses are explored for this lack of reflection of the children's developmental level. One possible e…

The child studied here did not show an increase in MLU from 15 to 22 months but within a three-month period after 22 months jumped from 1.2 to 3.0 MLU. This spurt is explain in terms of the other aspects of communication the child…

    Lynne Feagans, Dale C Farran•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1981•Cited by: 8•References: 3

  • How to make sense of temporal/spatial ‘before’ and ‘after’

    Open Access•Lynne Feagans•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Language•1980

Two experiments were devised in order to better understand the relationship between temporal before and after and their spatial counterparts. In Experiment I, sixty adults were probed for their spatial metaphoric understanding of temporal before and after . Although H. Clark proposed that temporal before and after were derived from their spatial counterparts, Experiment I did not support that notion. In fact, the subjects overwhelmingly reported …
