  • Unveiling Islamophobia

Open Access•Adrián Groglopo, Fereshteh Ahmadi et al.•ARTICLE•Cogent Social Sciences•2025

Political and media narratives often manufacture immigration as a social problem, framing the construction of meaning through the discourses of cultural differences as social, political and security problems. Of specific concern is how Muslims and immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries are perceived as the undesirable ‘Other’. The existence of latent - and many times open - anti-Muslim racism raises concerns about the depth of Sweden’s co…

This article presents a theoretical framework for analysing the findings derived from the Diversity Barometer, a longitudinal study that collected data on immigration and diversity-related topics in Swedish society from 2005 to 2022. This article examines attitudes towards immigrants and migration in Sweden and how the historical context of Swedish race relations and structural racism shapes these attitudes. Open Access•Jimmy Stephen Munobwa, Peter Öberg et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 52

Client violence in social work is a workplace problem in Sweden and internationally. Frontline workers in public agencies have the discretion to decide how they deal with clients to cope with challenges like violence and threats. The coping methods may favour some clients while disadvantaging others. Ultimately, the coping practices may become de facto policy, which may not match official organisational policy. This article explores coping method…

An online survey was conducted among faculty, staff, and students at universities in 24 countries ( n = 674). The results show that over 80% of the respondents used multiple coping methods. Three clusters of coping methods were generated thro…

    Open Access•Jimmy Stephen Munobwa, Fereshteh Ahmadi et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 26

Migration is topical in many counties, and attitudes towards immigration and ethnic diversity are volatile. In our longitudinal "Diversity Barometer", we have studied changes in Swedes' attitudes towards immigration and ethnic diversity in Sweden since 2005, using a postal questionnaire sent to a random sample of the Swedish population aged 18-75. In this article, we analyzed data from 2020 (n = 1035) in comparison with previous Diversity Baromet…

  • We Have Taken Care of our Children according to an African-Swedish Method

    Ann-Sofie Åsander, Ann‐Sofie Åsander et al.•ARTICLE•New Community•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 26

Most HIV-infected parents in Western Europe are of African origin. They face a range of problems while adapting to a new culture and previous research has highlighted the lack of studies on how to support them. In order to deepen our understanding of how they experience their parenthood, we conducted qualitative interviews with 12 HIV-infected Ugandan parents. All participants had access to anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment and, as they continued t…
