Differences in Immediate and Delayed Suggestibility Among Children With Dyslexia and Controls
The primary aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between dyslexia and suggestibility in children, and the extent to which this relationship is accounted for by performance on Word Tasks. Participants comprised 95 children with dyslexia and 109 controls. All participants completed the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale (GSS 2), which measures immediate and delayed suggestibility 1 week apart, five different Word Tasks, and a test of …
What Resilience Skills Do Emergency Workers Need During a Widespread Phase of a Socio-Health Emergency? A Focus on the Role of Hardiness and Resilience
Emergency volunteers who intervene during disasters and emergency situations are subjected to risk to their psychological well-being. Experiencing highly stressful experiences can lead to developing secondary trauma and burnout. It is, therefore, important to know what protective factors can be strengthened in volunteers to protect their mental and social well-being. This study has the main objective of analyzing how the possible protective facto…
Interrogative Suggestibility and Ability to Give Resistant Responses in Children with Mild Intellectual Disabilities and Borderline Intellectual Functioning
Children with intellectual disabilities can be victims of crimes but are generally deemed less reliable in the forensic context than children without disabilities. Their deficits may cause inaccurate recall, greater memory errors, and greater suggestive vulnerability. The aim of the present study is to verify the effects of intellectual abilities on recall tasks, levels of suggestibility, vulnerability to negative social pressure, and Resistant B…
Can Children Learn How to Resist Repeated Leading Questions and Social Pressures
In forensic contexts, children who are victims or witnesses of crimes are repeatedly questioned using stressful leading questions and social pressure. The main aims of the present study are to verify the effects of repeated suggestive interviews on children's level of suggestibility and resistant responses and to study how age and intelligence quotient may reduce the vulnerability of children. The study involved 110 children aged 10-15 years who …
Effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on interrogative suggestibility in minor witnesses of sexual abuse
How Implicit Attitudes toward Vaccination Affect Vaccine Hesitancy and Behaviour
Vaccination is one of the most important ways of fighting infectious diseases, such as COVID-19. However, vaccine hesitancy and refusal can reduce adherence to vaccination campaigns, and therefore undermine their effectiveness. Although the scientific community has made great efforts to understand the psychological causes of vaccine hesitancy, studies on vaccine intention have usually relied on traditional detection techniques, such as questionna…
The Relationship between Suggestibility, Fabrication, Distortion, and Trauma in Suspected Sexually Abused Children
Being a victim of abuse in childhood can lead to the development of trauma-related psychopathology, which could affect the testimony of the child victim. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a factor that can increase both the levels of suggestibility and the production of memory errors, such as confabulations, which can be identified in distortions and fabrications. No studies have analyzed the relationship between suggestibility, fabricatio…
Protective Factors against Emergency Stress and Burnout in Healthcare and Emergency Workers during Second Wave of Covid-19
Working as healthcare workers (HCWs) and emergency workers (EWs) during the first wave of COVID-19 has been associated with high levels of stress and burnout, while hardiness, coping strategies and resilience have emerged as protective factors. No studies have so far investigated these psychological factors during the second wave. We aimed to verify the trend of stress levels, burnout, coping strategies and resilience during the pandemic in Itali…
Coping Strategies, Immediate and Delayed Suggestibility among Children and Adolescents
Knowing the factors that influence children's suggestibility is important in implementing the psychological variables to be evaluated during a forensic evaluation. In the interrogative suggestibility model, coping strategies intervene in determining the acceptance or rejection of the leading question. However, studies that investigated the relationship between interrogative suggestibility and coping strategies had mixed results. Avoidance-oriente…
