    Antoine Bouzin, Hadrien Coutant•ARTICLE•Politix•2026

  • The scaling up of agricultural methanization: Sociotechnical arrangements between tinkering, embedding, and industrialization

    Open Access•Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Revue d'Anthropologie des…•2025•Cited by: 3•References: 5

This article examines the upscaling of the methanization sector in France from the 1950s to the present day. Our analysis of sociotechnical arrangements demonstrates how the process of industrialization has been accompanied by changes in production methods, both among the actors involved, and in terms of the division of epistemic work. Initially “tinkered” and not scalable, methanization became “embedded” in farms in the late 2000s. Encouraged by…

    Open Access•Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Revue d'Anthropologie des…•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 5

    Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Pôle Sud•2025•Cited by: 2

As part of national energy transition policies, the anaerobic digestion sector is also supported by regional authorities. A popular resource for biogas production, the intermediate energy crops (IEC) are attracting the attention of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Energy and Climate Department. Traditionally managed by agricultural services, IEC are now regulated by energy services, which is raising concerns and opposition both locally and within the regio…

    Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Formation emploi•2023

  • Negotiating Engineering and Activism: French Environmentalist Engineers Conforming to, Shifting, and Overstepping Professional Boundaries

    Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Engineering Studies•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 6

This paper explores three different forms of negotiation implemented by environmentalist engineers between their professional work and their environmental activism. These engineers, members of environmentalist organizations, appropriate in different ways this conceptual professional boundary that separates and opposes the social worlds of engineering and activism. The article draws from narrative interviews with 50 environmentalist engineers that…

    Open Access•Antoine Bouzin•ARTICLE•Socio•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 1

This article looks at the language used by French engineers involved in militant organisations to express the ecological cause. While the delimitation of the problem taken up is part of a diagnosis shaped by the authorities and scientific cause builders, the explanation of the causal chains of responsibility and the claims in terms of carbon frugality give rise to interpretative divergences shared between a technical vision presented as disencumb…
