From prediction to decision: An explainable AI framework for Urban ground subsidence risk management
Urban ground subsidence is a rare but hazardous disaster driven by aging infrastructure, dense underground utilities, and groundwater dynamics. Its prevention is challenging due to infrequent occurrence and complex, nonlinear interactions. While machine learning (ML) has been widely applied to subsidence risk prediction, most studies focus on predictive accuracy or risk visualization, with limited efforts to translate results into practical maint…
Selective Intent and the Implementation of French Naturalisation Policy During the Interwar Period: Insights from Pyrénées-Orientales and Moselle
This article analyses the implementation of France’s 1927 Nationality Law , highlighting the gap between its formal liberal provisions and its selective application. While the law eased access to French nationality, it granted the Ministry of Justice broad discretion to determine which foreigners were ‘desirable’. Using naturalisation records from the departments of Moselle and the Pyrénées-Orientales, the article demonstrates that eligibility wa…
Uncovering multidimensional patterns of insufficient effort responding: A latent profile analysis integrating survey data and cognitive task performance
Insufficient Effort Responding (IER) undermines survey validity but its detection remains methodologically challenging due to its multidimensional nature. Traditional univariate IER detecting methods often overlook interactions among response behaviors. We integrated seven complementary indicators-response time, maximum longstring, response entropy, mahalanobis distance, psychometric synonym-antonym and even-odd consistency-and used latent profil…

The Development of the Exhibitions and Educational Programs of Religiously-themed Museums: Focused on the Museum of Daesoon Jinrihoe
Aside from enriching spirituality, religiously-themed museums play a crucial role in resolving conflicts among the nations peripherally or various cultural groups in a broad sense. Relatively speaking, Korea has achieved a peaceful multi-religious society, yet the 2019 pandemic caused certain religious conflicts to surface or perhaps resurface. Since the 2000, due to the increasing number of migrants, there has been increasing awareness of the ne…

Animal Welfare from the Perspective of the Grievance-Resolution of Animals
The debate on the treatment of animals has accelerated as a social issue in the West since the 1970s. In 1975, Peter Singers argued in his book, Animal Liberation, that speciesism should be banned. This led to an explosion in research on animal welfare in the philosophical and social sciences. Following Singer, Tom Regan suggested considering the animal rights as being on the same level as human rights. Their arguments were that animals should be…

British American Tobacco’s ‘Glo Sens’ promotion with K-pop
Prevalence of conventional cigarette smoking continues to decline in South Korea in a context of changing social norms about tobacco use and strong tobacco control efforts by the government, civil society and scholars.1 Sales of conventional cigarettes also continue to decline compared with previous years.2 However, sales of other tobacco products, such as heated tobacco products (HTPs) or electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), continue to increas…
Machine Heuristic: When We Trust Computers More than Humans with Our Personal Information
In this day and age of identity theft, are we likely to trust machines more than humans for handling our personal information? We answer this question by invoking the concept of "machine heuristic," which is a rule of thumb that machines are more secure and trustworthy than humans. In an experiment (N = 160) that involved making airline reservations, users were more likely to reveal their credit card information to a machine agent than a human ag…
Daily Cigarette Consumption and Urine Cotinine Level between Dual Users of Electronic and Conventional Cigarettes, and Cigarette-Only Users
The aim of this study was to identify whether or not the dual users of conventional cigarettes and e-cigs were naturally reducing the amount of their cigarette smoking while they were using e-cigs, and whether their urine cotinine level became similar or less compared to conventional cigarette-only smokers. We used data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), a nationally representative sample collected in 2014…

Through analysis of survey and interview data, we find (1) a positive relationship between KakaoStory use and mothers’ perceptions of positive relations with others (a construct of psychological well-being), but no relationship with overall life satis…
The dress of the Mongol Empire: Genealogy and diaspora of the Terlig
Terlig is a characteristic Mongolian dress. It was originally developed to accommodate aspects of Mongolian lifestyle and culture. During the Yuan dynasty, it came to symbolise the dress of higher social status. The original composition of the garment, i.e. the clothing material, created the initial form of the coat with a cutline at the waist that facilitated an equestrian lifestyle. A waistband and folds on the waistline were similarly added la…

The Enduring Association between Education and Mortality: The Role of Widening and Narrowing Disparities
This article examines how educational disparities in mortality emerge, grow, decline, and disappear across causes of death in the United States, and how these changes contribute to the enduring association between education and mortality over time. Focusing on adults age 40 to 64 years, we first examine the extent to which educational disparities in mortality persisted from 1989 to 2007. We then test the fundamental cause prediction that educatio…
