  • Putting the Onus on the Offenders

Open Access•Hayley Alderson, Sara Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2025•References: 3

Domestic violence and abuse (DVA) is a global public health challenge. Project Cautioning And Relationship Abuse (CARA) is an out-of-court resolution used across police forces in England and Wales for lower risk, alleged first-time DVA offenders. This article reports on qualitative interviews and focus groups with professionals (police, commissioners, and CARA facilitators and managers, N = 31) about their experiences of delivering CARA following…

  • Childhood exposure to domestic violence

Open Access•Rebecca Jane Harris, Andrew Amos Channon et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Purpose: Childhood exposure to domestic violence and abuse (DVA) can lead to major short- and long-term effects on the victim. Despite this, there is no accepted measure for children's experiences, with most existing measures being validated only in high income countries and not in low- and middle- income countries. As a result, international statistics are not comparable. This paper seeks to critically appraise existing measures and discuss whet…

  • Economic activity and suicides

    Open Access•Gabriele M Lepori, Sara Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2024•References: 43

The relationship between economic activity and suicides has been the subject of much scrutiny, but the focus in the extant literature has been almost exclusively on estimating associations rather than causal effects. In this paper, using data from England and Wales between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 2017, we propose a plausible set of assumptions to estimate the causal impacts of well-known macroeconomic variables on the daily suicide rate.…

Open Access•Meghan Cosier, Sara Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2022

In response to the COVID-19 school closures in both K-12 and higher education, a group of education partners in the United States collaborated to offer a statewide webinar series, 12 webinars in total, to support preservice teachers as they worked to complete their clinical hour requirements. The webinars and extension activities provided via Padlets covered topics associated with best practices and related to credential requirements such as appl…

  • Media users as allies

Rebecca Tukachinsky Forster, Caitlin Neuville et al.•ARTICLE•The Communication Review•2022

The study examines psychological characteristics of dominant group allies (White, cisgender heterosexual individuals) in the context of media consumption. A survey of U.S. Americans (N = 272) examines the relationship between personality traits (openness and empathy) and support for racial and sexual diversity in the media. Both traits were predictive of (1) endorsing media diversity policies and (2) intention to consume diverse media content. Ho…

  • Better family lives”

Open Access•Lucy Dorey, Sara Morgan•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Practice…•2022

The Family Support Project is a whole family case management approach based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and developed for families affected by parental alcohol misuse. • Women living with multi-morbidity in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana

Open Access•Sara Morgan, Sara A Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•2019

Defined as the co-occurrence of more than two chronic conditions, multi-morbidity has been described as a significant health care problem: a trend linked to a rise in non-communicable disease and an ageing population. Evidence on the experiences of living with multi-morbidity in middle-income countries (MICs) is limited. In high-income countries (HICs), multi-morbidity has a complex impact on health outcomes, including functional status, disabili…

  • Prevalence and correlates of diabetes and its comorbidities in four Gulf Cooperation Council countries

Sara Morgan, Mohamed Mahmoud Ali et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2019•References: 28

BACKGROUND: The Gulf Cooperation Council countries are witnessing unprecedented changes due to fast economic development and population growth. The aims of this study were twofold: first, to estimate the prevalence of diabetes and its comorbidities; second, to examine the association of sociodemographic risk factors and healthcare service utilisation with diabetes. METHODS: Data from the World Health Survey Plus (WHS+) from Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Ar…

  • A review of methodology and tools for measuring maternal mortality in humanitarian settings

Open Access•Sara Morgan, Sara A Morgan et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2018

Estimation of maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in humanitarian settings ('settings of conflict, displacement and natural disaster') is challenging, particularly where communities have dissolved and geographical areas are inaccessible. During humanitarian events, the reproduction of maternal mortality figures by the media is common, and are often based on inaccurate reports. In light of such uncertainties and challenges, the aim of this article was …
