    Lydiadas (also Lydiades) rose to power as tyrant of Megalopolis ca. 245 bce , but abdicated from his position and joined his city to the Achaian League in 235 bce . He quickly rose to prominence in the League, was elected strategos three times, and became a rival of the influential Aratos of Sikyon. He encouraged the Achaians to wage war against the Spartan king, Kleomenes III, in 229 bce and died in battle defending his city in 226 bce .
