Adaptive Curriculum Design in a Transnational Dual Masters Programme
Transnational education (TNE) programmes frequently encounter tensions between maintaining academic rigour and addressing local contextual realities. This case study examines a part‐time dual‐award MSc in Financial Technology (FinTech), jointly delivered by a UK public university and a private higher education institution (HEI) in the Philippines. Framed through the glonacal agency heuristic, the paper explores how curriculum design and delivery …

Grotesque Monarchism in Luis García Berlanga’s Patrimonio nacional (1981)
This article reads Luis García Berlanga's Patrimonio nacional as a critique of the recently restored Spanish monarchy. The film constructs an allegorical relationship between Luis José de Leguineche's character and Juan Carlos, positioning him as a grotesque double of the King that parodically inverts common tropes about the ruler and highlights biographical details that had been disremembered or concealed in the interest of crafting his public i…

The Fragile Middle Class
The Fragile Middle Class
Since 1997, the number of American families filing for federal bankruptcy annually has exceeded one million. By most measures, those who file are members of the middle class—a group that has long provided stability and vitality for the American economic system. This raises the troubling question: why, during the most remarkable period of prosperity in our history, are unprecedented numbers of Americans encountering such serious financial trouble?…

A Holistic Approach to Supporting the Learning of Young Indigenous Students
Due to the high turnover of teaching staff in remote schools, the long-term sustainability of educational initiatives that enhance Indigenous student's learning is a major concern. This article presents a study of a remote Indigenous school (Ischool) situated in Queensland. Ischool has changed its approach to leadership, particularly the distribution of power and authority within the school context, to address this concern. The focus is on buildi…
Refocusing on Oral Language and Rich Representations to Develop the Early Mathematical Understandings of Indigenous Students
This article examines the nature of oral language and representations used by teachers as they instruct young Indigenous Australian students at the beginning of formal schooling during play-based activities in mathematics. In particular, the use of Standard Australian English (SAE), the mathematical register used, and the interplay with mathematical representations during classroom instruction are analysed based upon the teachers' selfreported pr…

Une prospérité précaire
Precarious prosperity. Concerning critical financial situations in the middle class. The 1990s were a period of great prosperity in the United States and yet, paradoxically, personal bankruptcies rose sharply during this time period. This study analyses data from questionnaires completed by bankrupt debtors to learn the reasons for their bankruptcies. Job problems were the leading cause of bankruptcy, but divorce, medical debts, housing problems,…

As We Forgive Our Debtors
Laws, Models, and Real People
It has been a central assumption in bankruptcy policy debates that financially troubled persons faced with bankruptcy will respond to economic incentives and disincentives. Two provisions of the Bankruptcy Code (Chapters 7 and 13) are most commonly used by individual debtors. Under Chapter 7 debtors agree to give up all their property (n excess of state-determined exemptions) to a trustee for sale and distribution to creditors. Under Chapter 13 d…

The Dispersal of Subsidized Housing in Chicago
This article shows how the Index of Dissimilarity can be used to develop a measure of the dispersal of subsidized housing in American cities. The Index is applied to data for Chicago: Similar data can be generated in other cities, and comparisons can be made among cities and metropolitan areas as to the degree of dispersal achieved over the three census years 1960, 1970, and 1980. This information should be useful to public officials who administ…
