  • Acculturative Stress and Inflammation Among Chinese Immigrant Women

    Carolyn Y Fang, Eric A Ro et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2014

OBJECTIVE: Among Chinese immigrant populations, increasing duration of US residence is associated with elevated risk for various chronic diseases. Although life-style changes after migration have been extensively studied in immigrant populations, the psychosocial impact of acculturative stress on biological markers of health is less understood. Thus, the purpose of the present study is to examine associations between acculturative stress and infl…

Open Access•Eunice S King, Eric A Ro et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Health•1995•Cited by: 1

This study evaluated the impact of two interventions designed to encourage mammography use among HMO women aged 65-74 who had not had a mammogram within the past year and had not used their referral for a free mammogram.

  • Mammography-Related Beliefs of Older Women: A Survey of an HMO Population

Open Access•Eunice S King, Eunice King et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Health•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Although breast cancer risk increases with age, most studies show that mammography use decreases. A 15-minute telephone survey of 548 women health maintenance organization (HMO) members aged 65 to 74 who had not obtained a mammogram within the past year was undertaken to identify sociodemographic factors as well as knowledge, belief, and attitudinal characteristics associated with mammography history. Women who had never had a mammogram were less…

Ronald E Myers, Andrew Balshem et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1993•Cited by: 4•References: 6

This prospective study was done in a health maintenance organization colorectal cancer screening program to determine whether 166 persons found to have abnormal fecal occult blood test results typically underwent complete diagnostic evaluation (i.e., either colonoscopy or barium enema x-ray plus flexible sigmoidoscopy). Chart audit data show that 137 (82%) subjects contacted a physician to discuss follow-up. A complete diagnostic evaluation was r…

  • Adherence to Continuous Screening for Colorectal Neoplasia

    Ronald E Myers, Andrew M Balshem et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1993

Continuous screening is defined as the periodic provision of an opportunity for diagnostic testing to a population of individuals who are asymptomatic and at increased risk for disease. If screening is offered periodically irrespective of response to an earlier screening invitation, this situation may be referred to as serial screening. When continuous screening is made available only to individuals who had tested previously, population member re…

  • The impact of mailing psychoeducational materials to women with abnormal mammograms

Caryn Lerman, Eric A Ro et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1992•Cited by: 3•References: 10

A randomized trial was conducted to evaluate the impact of mailed psychoeducational materials on adherence to subsequent annual mammography among women with prior abnormal mammograms. The results showed a 13% increment in adherence among women who received this intervention. This effect was independent of all sociodemographic and medical variables examined. We conclude that mailed psychoeducational materials may be an effective mechanism to impro…

Beyond the River and the Bay brings to life the exciting landscape of the Canadian Northwest in the early years of the nineteenth century when the fur traders from the St. Lawrence clashed with their rivals from Hudson Bay. The book is based on an imaginary long-lost manuscript by Ian Alexander Bell Robertson entitled "Some Observations on the State of the Canadian Northwest in 1811." Robertson, a friend of Lord Selkirk and Sir Walter Scott, was …
