Intelligent imaging triage systems for reducing waiting anxiety: A narrative review
The delay in medical imaging exams can cause significant anxiety, impacting patient adherence, imaging quality, and overall experience. Intelligent imaging triage systems, driven by artificial intelligence in radiology, aim to improve examination processes and reduce patient anxiety. This review discusses the prevalence of patient anxiety during waiting periods, as well as the physiological and psychological mechanisms. In addition, the structure…
Global burden of viral skin diseases from 1990 to 2021: A systematic analysis for the global burden of disease study 2021
Background: The scarcity of knowledge regarding the epidemiology and temporal patterns of viral skin diseases worldwide poses significant challenges to their control and management. Methods: We analyzed the global incidence, prevalence, and age-standardized rates (ASR) of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for viral skin diseases in 2021. To examine temporal trends from 1990 to 2021, we employed the EPAC model, assessing changes by country, g…
Worldwide trends and future projections of fungal skin disease burden: A comprehensive analysis from the Global Burden of Diseases study 2021
Background: Fungal skin diseases represent pervasive global health concerns, predominantly arising from dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds. Objective: This study aimed to estimate the disease burden associated with fungal skin diseases in 2021. Additionally, it sought to analyze trends from 1990 to 2021 and forecast future patterns. Methods: This observational study first utilized data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database covering the y…
The people-centered care and inpatients’ perceived experience in China: A nationwide cross-sectional study
People-centered care is positively associated with inpatients' perceived experience, and enhancing health equity through PCC attributes can further improve this experience. Further reform and practice should focus on the amelioration of continuity of care, promotion of information sharing between medical staff and patients, access and effectiveness of care, and respect for patients, all contributing to health equity
Xiaoai Jiedu recipe reduces cell survival and induces apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma by stimulating autophagy via the AKT/mTOR pathway
These studies show that XJR activates autophagy in both cellular and animal models to induce apoptosis and decrease HCC cell proliferation, as shown by network pharmacology and verification assays. Further, these findings provide experimental evidence that the anti-tumor activity of XJR involves autophagy stimulation
Estimating helmet wearing rates via a scalable, low-cost algorithm: A novel integration of deep learning and google street view
The remarkable model performance suggests the algorithm's capacity to generate accurate estimates of helmet-wearing rates from an image source with global coverage. The significant enhancement in the availability of helmet usage data resulting from this approach could bolster progress tracking and facilitate evidence-based policymaking for helmet wearing globally
Amygdala's T1-weighted image radiomics outperforms volume for differentiation of anxiety disorder and its subtype
Our study suggest that radiomics features of bilateral amygdala potentially could serve as a basis for the clinical diagnosis of anxiety disorder
Caregivers’ Compliance and Perception of Daycare Centers—A Community-Based Childhood Drowning Prevention Intervention Implemented in Rural Bangladesh
Drowning was one of the most prevalent causes of death worldwide for children under five in 2020. Drowning was the second leading cause of death for children under five in Bangladesh, while 58% of all deaths in the 1-5 years old age group resulted from drowning. Adult supervision helps prevent child drowning in rural areas where water bodies are easily accessible and located very close to homes. This paper aims to assess caregivers' compliance an…
Evaluation of sample size for laboratory detection during HAdVs outbreaks in China: A systematic review and model research
Burden of Lesser-Known Unintentional Non-Fatal Injuries in Rural Bangladesh: Findings from a Large-Scale Population-Based Study
Around 90% of all fatal and non-fatal unintentional injuries occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The magnitude of unintentional injuries is unclear due to limited research and data. This paper describes the burden of lesser-known injuries (LKIs-cut injuries, unintentional poisoning, machine injuries, electrocution, injury by blunt objects, and suffocation) in rural Bangladesh, using data from the Saving of Lives from Drowning (SoLi…
Subnational estimation of modern contraceptive prevalence in five sub-Saharan African countries: A Bayesian hierarchical approach
Reliable subnational estimates of mCPR empower health departments in evidence-based policy making. Despite nationally increasing mCPRs, regional disparities exist within countries suggesting uneven contraceptive access. Raising investments in disadvantaged areas may be warranted to increase equity in access to modern contraceptive methods
Measuring fertility through mobile-phone based household surveys: Methods, data quality, and lessons learned from PMA2020 surveys
PMA2020 is a survey platform with resident enumerators using mobile phones. Instead of collecting full birth history, total fertility rates (TFR) have been measured with a limited number of questions on recent births. Employing new approaches provides oppo
Contraceptive Practice in sub-Saharan Africa
Forty eight of the African continent's 54 sovereign states are located in the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region, with the government of each defining and shaping its own health services and delivery systems. This paper reviews the trends and patterns of contraceptive practice in the region. Using survey data available from the Demographic and Health Surveys and Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020, the study finds modern contraceptive pra…
One Outcome, Many Trends: Understanding National Data Sources for Road Traffic Fatalities in China
Objectives. To better understand national data sources and evaluate time trends in road traffic fatalities (RTF) in China. Methods. We reviewed national sources on RTF data. These included population-based report from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), sample-based estimates from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Disease Surveillance Points System (DSP), as well as model-based estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Glo…
Maternal Risk Exposure and Adult Daughters’ Health, Schooling, and Employment: A Constructed Cohort Analysis of 50 Developing Countries
This study analyzes the relationships between maternal risk factors present at the time of daughters' births-namely, young mother, high parity, and short preceding birth interval-and their subsequent adult developmental, reproductive, and socioeconomic outcomes. Pseudo-cohorts are constructed using female respondent data from 189 cross-sectional rounds of Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in 50 developing countries between 1986 and 2013. G…
Estimating the child health equity potential of improved sanitation in Nepal
Pro-poor policies for expanding sanitation coverage have the ability to reduce population level health inequalities which can translate into reduced child diarrheal mortality
Maternal deaths averted by contraceptive use: An analysis of 172 countries
